In high school, he was the big man on campus, Castleport held him to a high standard. Son of the mayor, quarterback on the football team, all eyes were always on him, expectations were always held high. It was a lot of pressure to be under, pressure that he resolved on the field for the most part, but it still ate at him. With high social status came high responsibility, and Ryder tried his best to be a good example but not everyone was perfect. Marley and him ran in different social circles, only really needing to interact for glee club and that was that. He’d wave to her in passing in the hall, offer a smile, but other than that well, she wasn’t someone who was super important to him. He was a little busy with Bree, and for the period with Rachel, and maybe a few cheerleaders here and there in between. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t start now, besides, Marley had always been cute…now that she was older, she certainly blossomed in ways that he noticed. Getting to know her a bit better, maybe a little more up close and personal, was a great alternative to worrying about his own bullshit for the time being. Head falling to the side as he looked over her face while she spoke, he smirked a little with a slow nod of his head, “Right, right.” Ryder mused with a chuckle under his breath when she stated at her being a mind reader, “See, I always knew there was something about you that was different…now I have the answer.” He admitted with a wiggle of his brows before taking another swig of his drink, licking his lips as he drowned out the sound of the tone deaf singer on stage to focus on her, “Thank you for that, truth be told I don’t really check my facebook unless it’s like family stuff. I get way too many messages about getting tickets to games or whatever so, it might’ve gotten lost in the masses. But who knows, a message from Marley Rose is pretty top priority.” Ryder teased before motioning to her, “How’s life outside of Castleport treating you, you look great” The boy had to compliment her out loud, it wasn’t even a question in his mind, flattering girls and flirting was a reflex at this point that he sometimes didn’t realize he did, although this time he might’ve known exactly what he was doing. A breath of fresh air, he never really got to talk to Marley post graduation, the only people he kept in contact with were Hunter, Sugar, and of course his LA hook up time with Santana. Marley was a change of pace, a much needed escape, and he was going to take advantage of that.
Marley was never good at romance. Not that she has had a lot of practice with it, to begin with. Aside from Mike, a few one-sided middle school infatuations and her first kiss with a 6th-grade boy with braces many moons ago, that's all the romance the universe thought to bestow onto her. It doesn't mean that she isn't fond of the idea of being into someone - she craves it. Watching romantic movies on her lonesome with a glass of white wine is just her typical Friday night. She has always idolized the typical cliches; boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl; boy and girl have a fight only to fall back into each other's arms and have that happy ever after. These days, this very concept has been torn from the pages of romance, and a love story will now begin with a swipe on a dating app. Marley analyzed these movies; noted every move each character made so that she could input it into her life experience portfolio, but to no avail. Portland was her opportunity to put herself out there and try new ways to stand out; make herself known and available, and the closest she got to a second date was with the friendly bartender after she waited over an hour for a guy to show, so to have stood her up and left Marley feeling deflated and embarrassed. Looking at Ryder reminded her that he wasn't all that bad looking. And by that, she obviously means that he is hot. He was always attractive throughout high school, but without her blurred school vision haze, she could really see him in a new light. Now all she had to do was to just play it smooth, and play it cool.
It was obvious Ryder was flirting with her; it was in his very nature to do so. He sailed through school collecting girls and making them weak at the knees. And with the wiggle of his brow, and the playful tone to his voice, Marley was falling into his web of seduction too. "And by different, I know you just mean weird," snickered Marley under her breath. She didn't have a problem with weird anymore. She embraced it like an old friend. Marley rolled her eyes teasingly and shone a shy smile as the cup of cider pressed against her lips again. "Still Mister As Popular As Ever, I see. It's good that you're so humble about it all." However, when Ryder moved closer to her, she froze. "Top priority? The flattery is exceptional today. I don't deserve such kindness," Marley taunted amusingly. She could practically feel the warmth radiating off his body, and it really wasn't him to wear no shirt because she can already feel her gaze lingering to his muscular arms. She swallowed; to stop herself from her sights lowering to other certain body parts, and looked back up to see him smiling down onto her. The compliment surprised her. She was in good shape, had decent health and she was happy (more or less) but again, it was the way he spoke that struck a heartstring or two. She looked down at herself, scrunched her nose in disgust and shook her head, "Nah, I look fine at best. But life is pretty good. Portland is fun, my dogs keep me entertained at the best of times and I'm kinda loving my job. No complaints really." Marley was never really one to brag. "How about you? What's new in the life of Ryder Lynn?"
