The Heyoneia Gate at the ancient harbor of Piraeus was built to guard the harbor from land incursions. The harbor outside here is where the battle of #Salamis took place almost 2500 years ago against the invading Persian Empire. Had the Greeks not won that battle, Western civilization as we know it would not exist.
