SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 2026 – THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
HIS BODY AND BLOOD (Jn 6:51-58)
The two feasts of the hearts of Jesus and Mary are liturgically connected, denoting their union
On the Friday following the Octave of Corpus Christi (Feast of the Blessed Sacrament), the Church invites us to celebrate with gratitude the “gentle and humble” Heart of Jesus (Mt 11:29). This feast always falls on a Friday, and the following day, Saturday, we celebrate the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Thus, between the Friday of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Saturday of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we celebrate the United Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
In Scriptures, the word “heart” means the seat of the will, of wisdom, and of love. The day after Friday, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on Saturday, the Church celebrates the memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary: this is not a solemnity, but a simple “liturgical memorial.”
By uniting the two feasts, one on Friday and the other on Saturday, the liturgical calendar highlights the union of the two hearts.
By giving greater solemnity to the first feast, the Church discreetly recalls Mary’s place as second to Jesus: she receives her place from Jesus. She was made holy by Jesus.

In 2002, Saint John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries to the Rosary
In October 2002, Saint John Paul II proclaimed a “Year of the Rosary.” He mentions this in the apostolic letter he wrote on the subject, titled Rosarium Virginis Mariae. It is in this Letter that he added the famous “Luminous Mysteries” to the already established mysteries of the Rosary. This new cycle of the Rosary (1) leads us to contemplate the mystery of Christ who is light.
This dimension is particularly evident during the years of his public life.
Saint Mark’s account begins in the desert, hence his symbol, the lion. Mark was a companion of the Apostle Paul on his first journey. He lived in Rome around the year 70, where he served as Peter’s confidant and secretary. His Gospel thus conveys the catechesis of the Prince of the Apostles. It is the shortest of the four Gospels, written in a simple, lively, and vivid style, rich in concrete details. No doubt Peter had retained from his trade as a fisherman the ability to observe!
Five moments in the life of Christ were chosen by John Paul II. The Baptism in the Jordan allows us to hear the voice of the Father proclaiming Jesus as his beloved Son. At Cana, Christ, through his first miracle, opens the hearts of the disciples to faith thanks to Mary’s intercession. When Jesus proclaims the Kingdom of God and calls for conversion, he begins his ministry of mercy. At the Transfiguration, Christ shines with the glory of divinity, and the Father reveals him to the Apostles so that they may listen to him. When he institutes the Eucharist, Christ becomes food through his Body and Blood, under the signs of bread and wine.

Little Marguerite, from Paris, was dying of pulmonary tuberculosis. "She will recover!" Don Bosco promised her tearful mother. "Recite an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be every day, followed by a Hail Holy Queen, so that Our Lady Help of Christians may answer your prayer. Pray like this until August 15."

On August 15, the mother got dressed to go to Mass. Then she heard Marguerite cry out: “Mom! Mom! I’m cured!” And indeed, the sick girl was radiant, her cheeks rosy, her gaze free of fever! She got dressed immediately and went to Mass with her mother...
She was so completely healed that her story ends like the fairy tale: “And she lived happily ever after".
