This time we have a story about photo shoots. There are really photographers like the guy in this comic who shower their subjects with praise. "Nice!" "Oh! Beautiful!" "Super cute!" And so on. By the way, I'm the 'Futaba' type. If I listen too closely to what they say, I'll end up needing a chance to compose myself, so when I have the type of photographer who likes to throw out compliments like that, I try to ignore their words and just focus on the lens in front of me. I mean I appreciate the praise, but after I hear it I need a few seconds to pull myself together. Thinking about Aice5's members, Takahashi Chiaki-chan is the 'Ichigo-chan' type. She's always ready to pose anyway, but with the help of the photographer's words, she can quickly bring out even more and more cool poses! I would expect no less. So, one time that really stuck with me was when there was this photographer who would, only when they were taking photos, speak nothing but English for some reason. I was too busy smiling and posing to to ask them, "Why?" but I still remember that unique individual to this day. And there are all sorts of different photographers. So when you look at photos, it can be fun to imagine, "What was the photo shoot like?" Well, with that, this has been Asano Masumi. Until next time!

About today's comic. The anime showed this too. A seiyuu agency manager's job is incredibly hard work. If I look close when I check my email, I'm often surprised to see emails from my manager that were sent at 2 or 3AM and I think, "You were still working?!". They work on Saturdays and Sundays too. No matter the time, when the phone rings they have to wake up and answer. I can't hold a candle to these people. At times like these I think, a covert supply drop just like today's comic, with a nonchalant message like "Have a treat once in a while!" would be a nice thing to do, but..... I am really bad at that kind of thing. Now that I think about it, a while ago I borrowed money from my manager for a taxi and I still haven't paid them back! I'm sorry, I'll pay you back right away! Sorry... This has been Asano Masumi. Let me take this chance to say, Manager, thank you for everything you do!

All 13 episodes of the "Sore ga Seiyuu!" anime have successfully aired. Thank you so much to everyone who watched until the end. Today's comic is, to put it bluntly, an announcement! "Sore ga Seiyuu" Volume 1 is on sale now on Blu-ray and DVD. The first week of sales is apparently very important. It's one of those numbers the executives seem to worry about. haha. Some of you who watched until the end may be thinking, "With an ending like that there must be a 2nd season planned." but that is not the case (really). Unless lots of people buy the Blu-rays and DVDs that's really how it ends! This weekend, if you would, please pick up a Blu-ray or DVD. The recording kit version includes a script, a version of the anime with timecodes and storyboard visuals, and an option to turn off the voices for certain characters, so you can create a realistic seiyuu recording environment in your own home! ...so I've poured my impassioned feelings into this comic. But next week we'll return to a comic about everyday seiyuu life. Aside from buying the discs, as the author, there's one more thing I want to convey to everyone! Thank you so much for supporting the show over these past 13 episodes. It's been an unforgettable three months. It wouldn't have been possible without everyone's support! This has been Asano Masumi!

As mentioned in the comic above, various circumstances came together to create a very strong "final episode" impression. B- but it wasn't. haha. About today's comic. A seiyuu is fundamentally a creature who must carry a lot of things. Since we need to travel to different locations to do different jobs every day, leaving our stuff in a company locker is not an option. We have to carry everything with us on our persons. So, sometimes situations like today's comic occur... By the way, regarding the platform shoes mentioned in panel 2, seiyuu who are short of stature have to carry these around with them to wear for recording sessions. Because of the difference in height between them and the other cast members, when they have to share the same mic, it can't pick up their voice well unless they wear these to compensate for the height difference. Whenever I notice short seiyuu carrying around their platform shoes all the time I think, "That must be tough." And as mentioned in the third panel, when there's a photo shoot, seiyuu are generally responsible for our own outfits. If it's a photo shoot that shows the feet, we have to bring our own shoes in addition to clothes and accessories. And if we have a recording session right before the photo shoot, since we can't really do the recording in elaborate outfits we also need to have a more everyday outfit for recording. And so, our baggage keeps piling up more and more. The troubles of Rin-chan, who has to leave school early to go to work, are immeasurable! Hang in there Rin-chan! So, about today's comic. To tell the truth, the other day I received a present from the Earphones members. Apparently, they really racked their brains trying to choose a present for me. They read all about me online. They asked around. They walked through all sorts of stores. Thank you, thank you, Earphones. That's very admirable. It must be pretty tough to choose a present for not just the author but a senior in your own field. By the way, they ended up getting me some wonderful high-class bath salts. They told me, "Besides that, we also thought about getting..." and listed various different things, and I thought, "Thank goodness they chose the bath salts!" Haha. And from that experience, today's comic was born. When you're a regular on a show for a long time, you see birthday celebrations for cast and staff members quite often. Everyone pitches in some money and a representative buys a present, or the staff prepare a cake with a picture of a character on it. Then during break time or after the day's recording is done, everyone in the studio celebrates♪ Lately, people will make a LINE group, and discuss plans. "What should we do for this person's birthday?" "I'll contact you before next recording session..." Setting up birthday celebrations can be a lot of work but they're fun and they make for great memories. I wonder, do regular companies do this kind of thing too? Or is this special to the seiyuu industry?

So, let's talk about pets in the seiyuu world. Once in a while, break time will erupt into lively pet talk. My impression is, if you don't count people who live with their parents, it seems like seiyuu with more established careers have a far higher rate of having pets than newbie seiyuu who are still trying to stand on their own two feet. Cats and dogs are popular, of course. Just a few birds. And then there's ferrets, hamsters, rabbits and so on. However, seiyuu often have work where they have to stay away overnight like concerts and events. And those with pets often have a hard time finding sitters or hotels. There are also a lot of people who have multiple pets so the pets wont get lonely when they are especially busy with work. Considering all that, without a certain degree of financial independence, having a pet is quite a challenge. Talking to newbie seiyuu, it feels like there are a lot with responses like Ichigo-chan's, "I have a pet! But, it lives at my parents' house..." They'll tell you all about how they want to go back home soon to visit their pet. Futaba, it sure would be nice if one day you too had enough financial stability to get a pet. Okay, this week's story. We seiyuu go to work at different locations every day. There's an impressive number of studios scattered through all corners of the metropolitan area. Depending on the day, we might have to make 2 or 3 hops between different studios. For seiyuu, it's an everyday thing to have lunch or take a quick stroll in the neighborhood around a studio in the downtime between jobs. But... Based on where each studio is, these neighborhoods all have totally different atmospheres! "This place has nothing but curry shops..." "I'm walking and walking but there's not a single store in sight..." "What's the deal with all these upscale shops..." "Is.. Is this cafe even open?..." "It's only noon but there are people drinking!" "What's this? They're doing a flea market." And so on. There really are all kinds of different neighborhoods. If you asked me if it was fun I'd have to say yes. But just like Futaba in the comic, when I'm in a completely unfamiliar area I can be overwhelmed with culture shock. One time, I went to this slightly upscale shop and when I brought two bars of hand soap to the counter it turned out they were 4,500 yen each. Everyone, I implore you, please be careful when shopping in unfamiliar neighborhoods. Until next week～♪

In this week's comic we're continuing the "real life scary stories" series from 3 weeks ago. There actually are some studios that don't allow you to wear shoes inside. In most studios you just leave your shoes on when you go to record. Hmm, let's see... By my reckoning there's about a 10 to 1 ratio between studios where shoes are allowed and ones where they aren't. In those studios, there are slippers and a place for shoes where you enter. And you change into slippers before going in. Regretfully, since so many studios allow shoes, I always go to them thinking I'm going to a regular studio, but when I get there it hits me, "Oh that's right! You take your shoes off here!" This happens all the time. You think no one will see anyway, so you wear some socks with a weird design, or ones that are covered in lint balls if you look close, or ones with a hole in them. People really let their guard down under their shoes. Today's comic is a true story about a manger from another agency who I spotted at a studio like this. They were dressed to kill in their business suit, but on their feet they had animal socks. They looked a little embarrassed and it left quite an impression. When I saw this, I instantly felt closer to that manager. But I guess they probably just wanted to get out of there. haha. See you again next week, This has been Asano Masumi.

So this week we have another true scary story. This happened to me personally. Furthermore, this tragedy occurred multiple times. Living alone in an apartment with poor sun exposure. No full length mirror to check my appearance, just a bathroom mirror. And thus this terrible incident occurred. Sometimes someone would whisper to me "It's see through..." and other times I noticed on my own! Whenever this happened, I could feel myself go pale. Just remembering it gives me the chills. The way recording studios are laid out, all your costars, and maybe even the staff, are always looking at you from behind. Often, people will see you more from the rear than from the front. So you really have to remember to check how you look from behind. At the recording studio, clothing that doesn't make noise is one strict requirement, but another thing you might need to consider is clothing that's not a problem when viewed from behind. No matter how busy you are in the morning, checking your appearance from the rear should be a top priority. Otherwise you might end up like me, getting changed in the studio restroom! ;_; This has been Asano Masumi. Oh! The new "Sore ga Seiyuu!" book coming out at Natsucomi is looking really good. Real Life Scary Stories #1 ① The following story actually happened to me. 　 *dread* *dread* *dread* 　 I was participating as a guest star at a certain dubbing. 　 ② I've never played a character like this Emily before! 　 I had a lot of trouble with the script check! 　 Huh? 　 ③ There's a mistake in the cast listing on the script! 　 [Emily - Shiodome Hikaru] 　 [Charlotte - Kohana Rin] 　 You should have been listed for the role of Charlotte! 　 ④ Kyaaaaaaaaaaaa! 　 [A real life scary story...]

Since it's summer, it's time to tell scary stories. So for the next couple of weeks, I'll be bringing you the "Real Life Scary Stories" series. This one is a true story that I witnessed with my own eyes. At dubbing jobs, the names of the cast are written on the script. I checked my own role but... Foreign drama series have something called a 'Guest Star' It's a role that appears in only one episode but has about the same amount of lines as a main character. Can you believe that! The cast list had a mistake and the names that were written on the script for the roles of Guest Star A and Guest Star B were reversed! As I'm sure you're all aware, seiyuu do a lot of prep work for their own roles before recording. They watch their rehearsal videos, make memos of timecodes, read the expressions and emotions of the characters, and so on... So when I saw this happen I just thought, "What if that was me...", and went pale. However, these two were seniors of mine and veteran seiyuu. They exchanged timecode memos with each other. They didn't stop for a minute during break time, checking the video and practicing their lines. In the end, recording time was about the same as usual and they both gave splendid performances. You would never know they had just switched roles! With concentration and communication skills you can make all sorts of things happen. I was truly moved. These two pros, these veterans, they were just amazing! After recording was over, the rest of the cast shared their words of appreciation, "Very well done!" "Thank you!" That being said, that's still not an experience I'd like to encounter. It's a "real life scary story." Haha. So, I'll be sharing a few more stories like this in the weeks to come. Until next time.
