Hey Friends! Activity has been a little slow, been my busy month at work and I've had a LOT of work :) I'll be getting to replies soon! For any mutuals who may want to start a thread, feel free to hit me up!
"Business can be exciting," Lady chided softly, "She'll be rubbing elbows with all sorts of clients, who knows, she will probably still manage to find someone to get us plenty of free vacations" Lady liked the sound of that, lounging on the beach sipping on a margarita, letting the ocean wash away any stress, not having to worry about repairs or bills or any of the struggles that came with the day to day of demon hunting.
She couldn't help but smile at the blonde's enthusiasm for hunting. She too, always got excited about especially interesting jobs. Pulled from her thoughts at Trish slowing her down she finally turned her attention back to her.
"Hm? No way. I don't think I'll ever be tired of hunting" She stretched her back a bit "My body says otherwise though. I'm in my forties.... And while I used to plan going out in a blaze of glory... now I kinda wanna see Nero and Patty grow up more. You know?" Maybe she was getting more sentimental, but seeing them grow up was something akin to seeing her own kids grow up. Given it was quite a few steps removed but the gesture of retirement was more for them than herself.
"You know, the average life expectancy of humans is only like... 80 years if you are being generous. That means I'm over the halfway mark and that is not taking into consideration what we do..." It was obvious her mortality had been gnawing away at the edges, and in her own way she was confiding in the lightning witch.
"I could be gone before Dante even comes back..."
Pizza party
It didn't take her long to lock up the car and make her way to the entrance of the sewers. The rancid smell of feces and garbage almost made her gag, she could only imagine how much worse it was for someone like Vergil. Pointing to the tunnel she crossed her arms,
"There should be a nest in there. Flush 'em out and I can finish them off. And for the love of god, please do not fling any of the sewage this way. I just got this jacket and I would rather not have it smell like a toilet." Kalina Ann at the ready she paid him no mind as he ventured in, instead making sure she was ready for the incoming fight.
Furies were never fun to go against, requiring precise timing and always being on alert. Lady hardly took these jobs because of the sheer speed they were capable of, but over the last year Nero had been swamped with other jobs that she had no choice.
"I swear if he pisses them off..." Lady muttered under her breath as she waited. Angry furies were even worse to deal with, teleporting and trying to get in pot shots. Something she could not afford since a big wound would put her out of work for at least a week.

"Dante's influence huh...?" Huntress mused out loud, fingers curling some on the steering wheel.
"Unfortunately, despite Nero's best efforts. Dante didn't have much to do with him after Fortuna. In fact, it was Nero who kept in touch. I'm pretty sure he thought Dante was his dad for a while. " Lips curled downward at the recollection.
"He and Kyrie would drop by for holidays. Bring gifts. Cook him food. He never touched it. Even though Nero hides it well, I could tell it hurt him. As an orphan, it's easy to feel like you don't really belong." Jaw tightened. While it was never her place to interfere with family business, seeing Nero hurt struck a certain maternal chord in the older woman. And she knew, since Vergil had known her own father well enough, he would understand what she was getting at.
"He does well because of himself, and his family - Kyrie and Nico." Pulling to a stop in an abandoned lot of a large sewage entrance, she cut the car.
"But I can tell, especially after you and Dante left, a part of him wants you two there in his life. Be far from it for me to give you advice, but... For Nero's sake... He deserves it. "
Climbing out, she rattled in the back seat, pulling out her arsenal of weaponry,
"Ready to get this show on the road?"
She couldn't help the small laugh that bubbled from her at his reaction. Now she hadn't expected that. Especially not from the usually stoic brother in blue.
"The man who has come back from the dead three times is worried about a little reckless driving?" She teased, eyes back on the road as she leaned back. "Please, we both know if anyone is dying in that scenario, it would be me." The words were almost flippant, but after being around Dante and Trish for so long, she had come to accept that her humanity was the main contributing factor of her fragility.
That wasn't to say she wouldn't go down fighting. She had no illusion that she would die any other way than some unfortunate job gone sideways. The fact that she could still even keep up with Trish at her age sometimes surprised her, though she also hid her recovery from the other two well enough. At least that is what she liked to tell herself.
The silence engulfed the cab then, gnawing away at the gulf between the two before Lady spoke up once more.
"Did you know I found Nero first?" Random, offhanded comment. Not meant to take him by surprise but just something to stave off the silence.
"Brought Dante the Job in Fortuna after I found him. Figured he was related somehow. Looked like the spitting image of Dante I honestly thought Nero was his at first. " Not bothering to glance Vergil's way now, she continued.
"Imagine my surprise when it turns out he was yours. Not something I even considered, honestly."
Fated not to be tamed.

Started drawing sleepy Dante and had to add Lady to the picture 🥹💖 They are so cute togetherrr! ヘ(≧▽≦ヘ)♪
Heat momentarily forgotten at Trish's teasing, she stretched her shoulders, lips curling upward in an amused smile.
"Us girls gotta stick together, right?" she nudged back a little playfully, "Plus, I am going stir crazy. I don't know how Dante does it, just sleeping all the time at his desk. I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin if I'm not... doing something." Then again, as a human, keeping her physique maintained took a lot more effort than either Dante or Trish. As much as she wanted to deny it, age was certainly catching up to her, and it was not a prospect she was too enthusiastic to think about.
Retirement from hunting was a reality she had tried to avoid thinking about, but each year that passed, the eventuality loomed larger in the distance. Shaking her head to dismiss those thoughts, she hummed.
"By the way, Patty is graduating soon. I still have to find something for her. I think she mentioned something about going to college for business. Help Morrison and, more importantly, help Nero with that side of Devil May Cry." While Nero took to paperwork better than Dante, she knew he still struggled, and unfortunately, Lady was too busy with her own business and paperwork to help much. The thoughts of retirement slowly crept back in, and without prompting, she spoke.
"Hey, Trish." She ventured, curiosity getting the best of her, "Do you think there will be a day when I'll have to retire from hunting?"
miss the family issues trio ………………
Glancing over, the sight of Vergil so cramped in the passenger seat was nearly comical. The man was massive, and even in a car with ample legroom, he looked like he was having trouble finding space. Hand on the clutch, she shifted gears as she pulled out of the parkway. Luckily, it looked like there was still plenty of gas for the short trip, and so they wouldn't have to make a pit stop. The fewer people she had around, the better to watch him.
"So, to brief you," She started, eyes forward on the road as she sped up, "It's a den of Fury's in the sewers. Your job will be to go into the sewers and flush them out into the opening where I can take care of them. The map should be in the mission folder." Lips curled into a wry smile, and she couldn't help but spare a quick glance - just to see his reaction at being told he was on literal shit duty.
"Think you can handle it?" Gear shifted as she took a sharper turn than usual, very obviously trying to rile him up.
Finished N!DMC. While I feel like it catered to me as an audience that was... something. Really felt like I was just reading fanfics on A03 again lmao. That being said, if you need to talk about it, hit me up. //
While Vergil was inside fetching the keys, she busied herself with pulling the tarp off the top of the car, inspecting the tires to make sure it still looked okay to drive despite sitting for a long while. Unlike some of his other possessions, Dante was incredibly attentive to his car. She recalled one time that he had them park two miles away and then walk because he didn't want it to be part of collateral damage.
"Do you even know how to drive?" she asked curiously, lifting a brow and sauntering over to pluck the keys from his finger. She hardly knew him outside of... traumatic events, so something so normal had never crossed her mind to consider.
Unlocking the driver's side, she rolled down the window before moving to the backseat. Loading in her gear meticulously, she huffed.
"Should be good to run. I didn't see any dry rot in the tires. A little stale in the cab, but it'll air out fairly quickly." Glancing back over her shoulder, she stood.
"Now I doubt Dante has insurance, so if we get pulled over, you're Dante alright? I'll drive since I have my ID." Sliding into the driver's seat, she adjusted it to her height and turned the key, letting it roar to life.
"Ready?"
A part of her knew that Trish strutting over to the thermostat spelled disaster on the best of days, but there was a small, desperate part of her that hoped whatever magic she could conjure just may work. Hell, Dante had a knack for hitting things and them suddenly working. To her dismay, all that she got from her efforts was a small trail of black smoke.
Softly, she groaned, cheeks flushed from the heat as she forced herself to sit.
"We are doing more than fixing it." Lady responded, fanning herself in a pathetic attempt to cool down. As always, the raven-haired huntress never did anything in half measures.
"I am going to get a top-of-the line AC, and a new ceiling fan to boot." She had plenty of funds squirreled away, and although Dante was MIA she doubted he would complain. At least until she informed him just how much he would owe her.
"We can get some food while we are out. Then later, maybe you would do me a solid and redo my manicure?" forcing herself to stand, she stretched, sauntering over to give one last glare at the useless thermostat as she waited on Trish.
"Annnnd maybe some good old girls' night hunting?"
