Day 12 - 23/11/19 Florence

Ash and I headed out mid morning and started the day with a v large salami, Gorgonzola and truffle sandwich. Shortly after, I was poo’d on by a pigeon.

We went sightseeing all over the city, went home w Gusto’s pizza for lunch, then out again at sundown to visit the Uffizi Gallery (home of Botticelli’s Primavera and Birth of Venus).

We ate dinner at a beautiful restaurant

in the Santo Spirito Square (if you visit Florence, this is where you should stay) below our apartment.

And after a day of walking and eating we feel asleep as soon as we got home.

Day 11 - 22/11/19 Palermo to Florence

As my father’s daughter, I dropped off my rental car 2 hours early to arrive at the airport 6 hours early.

What a sense of relief to have survived 11days driving around a foreign country on the other side of the road.

I tried to kill time by walking to the beach. 5kms later w my 8kg bag, maybe not the best idea. But at least I used up a few hours.

My arrival in Florence was very smooth.

Giovanni met me at the train, took me on his scooter through bustling Florence to the AirBnb and checked me in and after my delicious dinner (of porcini mushrooms and ravioli) I met him for a glass of wine while I waited for Ash.

Day 10 21/11/19 Scopello

Same routine this morning, tea, croissant and drawing in the main square.

I spent the rest of the day at Tonarra de Scopello (am old Tuna house turned hotel). I couldn’t afford to stay but could afford the €7 entry to have a look around and visit the private beach.

I haven’t mentioned yet, but Scopello is a town nested under a mountain so the beach only has about 2-4hours of direct sunlight a day. Tonarro de Scopello is even more protected, so it gets about 2. I spent all of those 2 hours on the beach and in the (freezing) water. I loved it.

There were no actual guests staying at the hotel, so at lunch the staff invited me to a birthday party. It made my day. I couldn’t understand anything but I sang happy birthday and ate cake and it was great.

In the evening I drove to Castellamare for dinner and this time I didn’t chicken out. Driving through the town was terrifying but the Sicilian Caponata paid off.

When I returned home Olivia and Johan (the French couple I mentioned checked in a few days ago) were sitting outside their room and invited me to join them. A fantastic day, a magnificent night.
