I remember doing the Carolina-Pittsburgh final game. The last time I was gonna see Pittsburgh. And Sidney Crosby came by, asking, "Hey, I hear you're retiring." I say, "Yeah." He goes, "Why?" I go, "Well, because I'm old and slow." So he kinda laughed and skated away. There was nothing formal after the game. But about ten minutes [after] the game ended, in the dressing room, [there was a] knock on the door. It was a trainer for Pittsburgh. And he handed me a stick from Sidney and said, "Sidney wanted you to have this. Wished you good luck." And on the stick it said, "Dear Dave, thanks for putting up with me all these years. Best of luck. Sidney Crosby." And I mean, that's up on my wall now. It's a treasured memento.

Good morning,

“Can’t get away from him.”

“Mikey went yesterday, and he kind of gave me a hint that New Jersey might be an option. It will make it a little more comforting.”

“After I was drafted I talked to [New] Jersey and asked if they were going to take Nathan, and they said, ‘We’ll see.’ On the second day of the draft we were counting down the picks and then New Jersey was up and selected. It was crazy because me and Nathan are really good friends. We played on the same line the last two years and it’s been a good journey with him. If we get the chance to play in the NHL together, that would be something.”

“I guess he was bugging the New Jersey guys and he said something like: you should pick Nate tomorrow morning. New Jersey was up and they were picking…and it was me. Obviously it was pretty cool.”

“It was crazy when they actually picked him, it was pretty funny, I couldn’t really believe it, it was kind of best case scenario.”

“That is the dream obviously to get to go play in the NHL and just like playing here together it would be even cooler to make the jump together.”

“It just makes everything so much easier, he makes everything fun, funny and he likes to joke around but also takes everything very seriously.”
