      he fully expects coralin’s wrath and, because of this, he doesn’t shy away when she marches up to him. he deserves it. he deserves every bit of anger thrown his way, from everyone who he has come to fail. instead, she gives him a weary smile and soft words.

           “ it was. . .a bit of a fluke that i learned of what was happening. my search is incomplete, but this was -- this was more important. you’ve done well here in muspell and in nifl, and the fact that i’ve let you go this long without word of how i was is pitiful. ”

     he thinks idly to veronica during the rescue. veronica, exhausted and withdrawn and accepting of her fate. veronica, concerned for her knight moreso than her brother.

     there’s an idle ache in his chest, one he’s gotten used to.

when bruno apologized to veronica and she just turned around and asked if xander was alright, he kinda died inside a little but at the same time hes glad she has xander to rely on and was happy to tell her he was alright

oh, she looks so wonderful in her armor. bruno can't help but feel a twinge in his chest -- is it pride or sadness? he can't really be sure. veronica was never meant to be a warrior, she was meant to be a princess atop a realm that waited on her hand and foot. the fact that she's here with hands roughened by staffwork means something is terribly wrong. veronica had been sitting on the stone fence for an hour now, trying to figure out what to do. her older brother had returned at last, but veronica…veronica hadn’t been to greet him yet. 

she wanted to, of course. she wanted to hug him, to tell him of all the friends she’d made, of all the hurt she’d finally begun to heal. but she couldn’t. she was paralyzed by fear. 

..what if she’d been the one to drive bruno away? 

had she been too clingy? too needy? had she said the wrong things? what did veronica do wrong? what was it that drove everyone away? even the people that were supposed to love her, like her father and brother? 

family. it was almost entirely a foreign concept to the princess.

she jolts when she hears her name, and hops down from the wall. she clutches her staff, and takes a step back. she finds herself unable to speak- not for lack of words, but because she had too many, and it felt as though they were clogging her throat.

“i missed you,” she forces out, then adds, “i went looking for you.”

it’s a incredible oversimplification of what’s happened since bruno vanished, but she assumes that someone told him already… that, or he already knew.

“i’ve- i’ve made friends here,” veronica tells him. “and since i came here, i don’t hear those voices anymore. i won’t- i won’t bother you as much anymore, so…”

tears start welling in her eyes, and she looks down, hoping bruno can’t see them. it’s hard to speak with the lump in her throat, but she manages to get out, “so please don’t go away like that again.”

     he wants to be angry at her about it, he really does. . .but he can’t be upset because she had simply done what he was too cowardly to do. a sigh escapes him, his shoulder slumping a bit.

     oh, he’s missing a ticket…where in the world had it gone? he turned his room over entirely before a realization came over him. ah, someone had taken the extra ticket from him. after a moment’s thought, he seemed to realize who’d done it. almost no one would go into his room except –
