#ClippedOnIssuu from Catalogo nerosicilia 2016 nerosicilia è pietra naturale estratta dalle pendici dell’Etna e trattata col fuoco in un nuovo e unico processo di produzione: bruciatori speciali studiati ad hoc portano la pietra fino ad una temperatura di 1300°C riportandola al suo stato di magma. Questo processo non applica alcuno smalto, la pietra rimane nel suo stato naturale con un profondo tono nero, impossibile da trovare in natura. Le differenti curve di cottura ottenute dalle diverse combinazioni di tempo e temperatura generano le superfici nerosicilia. nerosicilia is a natural lava stone extracted from the slopes of Mount Etna and fire treated using a new unique process: special burners designed ad hoc carry the stone up to a temperature of 1300°C,bringing it back to its state of magma. This process does not apply any enamel, the stone remains in its natural state with a deep black tone, impossible to find in nature. The nerosicilia surfaces are obtained by different firing modes varying time and temperature combinations.

Serra has said that individual works in a series can “become critical of each other” and that the success of one hinges on the development of the rest. The monumentality and power of the Rounds prints conjure up associations with black holes, solar eclipses, bomb blast craters, and even sonic booms. Their pitchy blackness and encrusted texture also convey a weight, density, and physicality that matches the artist’s muscular, full-body process. Serra has warned against assigning too much significance to his titles, but the names of the heavyweight jazz and blues musicians from which the Rounds prints take their titles seem appropriate. The works were created in tune with each other, a process akin to the improvised, call-and-response riffing of a jazz or blues ensemble.

In un periodo difficile per tutti, si aspetta Natale e il nuovo anno con tanta speranza. Si spera che questi momenti possano essere punti di svolta per ognuno di noi. Ci si augura e regalano pensieri sereni e felici, ma non sempre è possibile farlo materialmente, quindi come si dice dalle mie parti…st’annu funci (quest’anno…funghi).
