Austin looked out over the water and took a deep breath. “I was five,” he started, refusing to look at the man as he told the story, “the first time someone left me. And it was my parents. They had a meth lab in our basement and the state deemed they weren’t safe enough for me to live with. My dad just split but my mom tried for a couple of weeks. She’d have visits with me but I would throw a fit every time I had to leave her. After a while, she couldn’t stay clean so she gave up and I was made a ward of the state. The first two foster homes couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t calm down. Why I wouldn’t love them back. But I was sad and I missed my mom and they couldn’t understand that so they let me go. The next family, well, by then I just couldn’t trust people. They said they wanted me and they would keep me no matter what, but everyone has a line. And I made a name for myself crossing that line over and over again. Every button they had, I pushed just to prove that I was right - they wouldn’t keep me no matter what. The fourth family was just in it for the money and the community attention and the fifth - well - they were the biggest liars. Promised me they’d never leave. Even lied to me - told me we were just going to an appointment and then for ice cream and were actually just taking me back to the agency because they picked out a different younger kid.” Austin bent down and picked up a rock and threw it back into the ocean. “After that, it was group home after group home where I did whatever the other kids were doing which mostly ended up being sex and drugs. Then, I turned 18 and even the state didn’t want me anymore.” Austin finally looked over to Cole, “So there you have it. I’ve never been wanted. And don’t tell me “I want you” or “Someone will” because I won’t ever believe it. Now you finally know why and we can be done with this whole charade.”

Cole let Austin talk and do what he needed to as he spoke his story. After it was all over and done with the only thing he could do was sit on the sand and watch the water ripple. “So that’s your story. I won’t say I’m sorry or that you deserve better because you won’t believe me. And I know you want believe me if I say I want you. So I’ll say this;” He grabbed his own rock and throw it in the water. “You were given a bad hand at birth. Your life pretty much has sucked up until this point but every moment of your life you’ve been given a new set of cards. And up until now, you’ve always gotten the worst luck. But I promise you, this time...your cards might have seemed bad but with a single King you’re going to get the best hand you’ve ever had.”

It wasn’t my intention to take one so new, I do hate disobedience. However, as I said, exceptions had to be made, and it was so adamant about wanting out of its cell. I am nothing if not a kind Mistress, after all. 

That is a lovely offer I will keep it in mind thank you. I am sure he is a well behaved little thing, the claimed slaves I have met thus far all seem to be.

That makes sense, I’m glad you taught him a lesson at the very least and that it wasn’t too much harm to yourself. 

He is very well behaved, the best of them all actually. Even before he was claimed. And yes, I suppose most of them are.

Austin scoffed a little at the man’s really lame joke, but it was nice none the less. He would never understand completely why Cole read books on the beach, but he let it go for the sake of the walk. But then, the conversation revert it back to what it always did. Austin stopped walking and sighed before turning towards the Master. “You still don’t get it,” he said softly, “I know that’s what you want. You want to change everything. You want to make me see that some people are good and can keep their promises. But you canlt accept that I can’t believe that and everytime we do this, we get into some huge fight and I freak out.” He didn’t know why Cole wouldn’t give up with him. Sure, in some other reality Austin could find hope in that. But not in this one. Not in the one where Austin was a slave and Cole already had one. He took another deep breath, “Do you really want to know why? Why I am the way I am? What happened to me?”

Cole was actually surprised that Austin wasn’t yelling at him to trying to make a run for it. Sure his collar had a tracking device on it but the boy wasn’t budging. He was actually, from the looks of it, opening up to Cole. “I want to know if you’re ready to tell me. If you’re not then I’ll be here whenever you are ready.” He reached up and stroked the boy’s cheek with his thumb. Guilt is all he felt for this boy. Cole had already guessed his home life wasn’t great but the fact that Austin was on this island only made everything worse. That’s why he wanted to help him in anyway he could.

“Then wouldn’t it make more sense to read somewhere else?” He never did understand that. This place may have been hell for Austin but it was a vacation for Cole. So why would he choose a pretty beach to read at? Made no sense. “You don’t make me mad,” he said quietly, “you just think you know me. And you don’t. So I get frustrated.” Truth was, Cole scared the slave. He could easily be someone Austin could be with long term - if he were normal. But Austin was far from that. There was no determining that he would ever handle someone being around long term. And even if he could, Cole already had one claim and he wasn’t going to stay in paradise. So what was the point? “Huh?” Austin said, snapping out of his thoughts, “oh right. Sorry I meant Zach I think it just came out weird. Zach is cool. James is too.”

“It would, but I enjoy the sun. I don’t look nearly as attractive when I’m pasty skinned.” Cole teased, leaning over to kiss Austin’s temple. A smile spread across his lips at Austin’s soft confession. There had to be some false in that sentence since Cole had seen the boy mad, so mad infact that he broke things. But it was nice that Austin was opening up, even just a little bit. “You know Austin.” He stopped all the suddenly and turned Austin around so he could be face to face with him. “I’d know more about you if you told me. I only want to make you happy. Nothing more. I don’t expect you to love me or see me as Junior does. I just want to see you smile and actually feel good about yourself. You’re an amazing young man and sure you get frustrated a good bit...but that doesn’t mean you’re broken or people don’t want you. I want you, more so then anything I don’t have already.”

The new one, named Artie as far as I can tell. Its very naughty, the poor thing and it has no idea how bad that truly is. I was hoping to not ruin my manicure so quickly but when he can’t even manage a proper ‘Mistress’ exceptions must be made. 

Thank you, it is nice to meet you Cole. As for drinks I would be happy to oblige. I would invite you and whatever pets you may have under your care over but I would rather the temperament of this one, not be allowed to effect others.

Ah, a new one. I typically stay away from them until they’ve been here a few weeks. I do hope you taught him a valuable lesson though. 

As is you. That’s perfectly fine, I always have my claim with me so whenever you’re free we’ll be happy to take you down by the beach. He’s not as well trained with females but he’ll try anything if you require a service from him.

I was intending to put in an appearance, parties are lovely things, but there was a very naughty little slave child who needs some tempering so I opted to spend the evening making adjustments to suit my plans.

It was nice out, the slave could agree with that. He walked as Cole started with the small talk, but hearing the man talking about his family only made Austin’s stomach turn. “Why? Don’t you like swimming?” He asked, trying to avoid the rest of the story Cole was trying to tell. Austin nodded and looked over at Cole as the walked, “I did. I like Jeff, when he’s not trying to get me to bare my soul. And Zeke is nice enough so yeah, I had fun,”

“I don’t mind swimming, I just enjoy reading when I’m at the beach and last I checked, water and books don’t go very well together.” This was nice, sure he could take Ryan down to the beach anytime he wanted but Austin always had a different air about him. Sometimes it pissed him off but sometimes it was a nice refresher. He cherished his boy, there was no mistaking that, but Austin was a different one and Cole yearned to learn everything about this boy and make him smile. “I’m glad you had fun, I might make you mad a lot, but I do enjoy that smile of yours. Ah Jeffery that boy..is something. He’s nice in small quantities, to be honest though I don’t think I could handle someone so high energy. James surely has his work cut out for him. Zeke? You mean Zach?”

Well he might get used to the part time help. Then, when it’s not here anymore, what would he do? Might get lazy or bratty and no one wants that

Maybe I’ll just keep renting you every other week. Junior, bratty? I don’t think a word like that exists in his head. Lazy yes, but he’s always eager to do something if I tell him to.

Austin was in autopilot after hearing from Quinn that Tigerlily was gone. He wasn’t surprised - just numb. This always happened to him and he didn’t understand why no one else saw it. Austin looked up as Cole reentered the room from putting Ryan to bed. It hurt the slave a little. He was happy for Ryan, but he was a grown man who had a daddy. Austin didn’t have that when he was 5 and it just didn’t seem fair. It was something that Austin would never have and he was definitely jealous. “Alright teach,” he said, smiling at the kiss and turning to be ready to walk with Cole.

Cole frowned a little when Austin turned away so quick but the boy seemed to constantly confuse him so he let it go for now. He locked the door and led Austin down towards the beach. “I never use to like the beach when I was younger. It was always too bright out and my siblings always tried to drag me into the water.” He paused a moment to pull off his shoes before putting his arm around Austin’s shoulder and walking him along the shore. “So how did you enjoy yesterday? I saw you smile once or twice so don’t lie and say you had a horrible time.”

Well selfishly - no. I wouldn’t feel bad at all. But I do kind of like him so if he didn’t want it then I might feel a little bad

I don’t think Junior would complain if you gave him a hand every once in a while.
