Our process
Design Proces:
Path 1:
The first stage of our proces was a general brainstorm on places/people and areas with possible problems and opportunities for interaction solutions. Out of these concept we selected the most interesting idea’s for the proceeding phases. Each member of our group got a series of “likes” to stick on the idea’s.
For the selection of ideas (about 5 of them) we brainstormed again on possible translations into product designs (as the ideas up till now where very abstract and general).
Path 2:
These stages of ideagenerating where interspersed with research about people sharing experiences (moodboard). A brief feedback of our collegues (presentation at school) And later in the proces specific on people walking around in the station and waiting on their train/friends/...
The combination of these 2 paths resulted in a set of specifications for the selection of ideas. Based on these specifications we combined 2 of our idea’s into one concept that fitted the design challenge best. This concept was deepened and specified with extra function and App.
The last stage of our process was visualising the concept and trying to figure out the last bits and parts of the design.
Final Note
“Pop The Bubble”
The last few years we have witnessed a change to a more digitally connected world in which we share everything around us. The danger of this digital world is a society in which people do not interact with eachother in real life but only connect to each through social media. With this future in the mind, the time shared in public spaces will be boring and very asocial. People walking around with headsets or playing games on there smartphones but not really connecting with each other.
In these social media the netwerk you communicate with is a very static netwerk of existing friends and acquaintances; there is little possibility on expanding your netwerk. What we want to obtain with our concept is that people wil intereact with eachother in real life and expand their netwerk based on their musical taste.
With our concept we tried to connect poeple with different backgrounds but the same goal. The context around wich we’ve worked is public area’s like bus- and trainstations, airports, .... The people gathering in these areas are all on the move to different places. The concept would propose songs that match peoples personal taste in music to trigger them in participating. In other words; the possibility of exploring new music styles and groups should motivate people to connect with eachother through musical experiences.
The philosophy behind the concept is a cloud of music above your head in the public spaces. “throwing” a song, genre or playlist into the cloud of music gives you the opportunity to share your taste in music with other people and connect with them through the App and the music (this will be done by making a throwing gesture while holding your smartphone or mp3-player). A visualisation on the ceiling gives people an indication of area’s where music is shared between travelers. For example, if you are sitting on a benche and throw a song in the cloud, other travelers will be able to see a visualisation on the ceiling ( genre/tempo and moods of the song can be displayed by colour and wavy lines that indicate the tempo of the song). They can join this person in his music experience and propose others songs in the same genre. Exploring music genres together.

Finalizing the user scenario and rendering some visualizations :)

Final Concept
After a good 20hours we've finalized our concept. It involves strangers, music, transport and allot of new discoveries. We're entering the final hours brainstorming about the way we are going to communicate our idea's ! More pictures on the the concept later when the battery of our camera is recharged :)
Wa just got back from our walk through the city. Got some #FreshAir and great pictures of our target group(s) and the beautiful Central Station of Antwerp
Defining context and concept
Ideas and concepts are being shaped
And we keep recruiting. Going to school = Adding WOUTER to our team! YES
Time management: So, last 2 hours we had a seminar at our school. Not a great way to spend our precious time given for this challenge. On the other hand we tried to make this interruption a added value by asking our colleague students what they think about Interaction design and bringing people together. :)
