With Christmas fast approaching, many people are wondering what to buy their friends and family members who are expecting a baby. We all know it is hard to search for clothing for anyone, especially someone who is pregnant. Pregnant women seem to show at different times during their pregnancy and gain different amounts of weight in different places. So even a spouse shopping for his wife may have a hard time guessing sizes and knowing what will flatter her emerging and changing shape.
One type of clothing you can't go wrong with for an expecting woman is a comfy pair of pajamas. Maternity pajamas are often roomy and stretchy and much easier to fit than say a pair of jeans or flattering top. Also, pregnant women are generally not as picky with pajamas, as long as it's comfortable, they can sleep in it and lounge around the house in it, they are happy. It's not like you are going to pick up the kids at school in your pajamas, go out dinner or wear them to work, so overall it's a much more low stress pleaser.
Often it's a good idea to buy maternity pajamas that double as nursing pajamas so that they can be worn (and have the added benefit of usefulness) after she has the baby. Most postpartum women prefer a roomy pajama after they have the baby as they might need a little more room in the bust if they are nursing and they don't want anything restrictive as a lot of their time is spent in bed or in the house for the first few weeks, particularly if they are breastfeeding fulltime. Also, if they had a C-section, then they really prefer a loose waistband that will not interfere with their stitches and healing.
There are many cute maternity "Sleep Sets" on the market today. These make a particularly good gift for an expecting mom as she can wear them at the hospital after she has her baby. She can also coordinate her outfit with her baby which makes for some very cute first pictures to send out to family, friends and co-workers. She will also appreciate the robe that comes with the set as she may need to get some exercise down the hospital halls or greet well wishers in something more appropriate and flattering than a hospital gown.
Of course it helps to know the gender of the baby in choosing a maternity and baby sleepset as many of the coordinating baby outfits are either pink or blue. However, if you don't know, there are some adorable gender neutral colors for the baby in some of the styles such as white, yellow, grey and these shades intermixed in various patterns.
Also it's always a good idea to include a gift receipt for any maternity clothing gift so that the recipient can exchange for another size or color without having to bother the sender. Make sure your check with store in advance to understand the return and exchange policy in advance of your purchase.
