A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda
At the use of her first name, Clara raised a brow. She never liked getting familiar with people and Yates seemed to be trying to do exactly that. Then, as the girl went on to explain herself, tilting her head and all, Clara strained not to laugh. Clara often found herself doing similar actions, but only if not to amuse her own self.Β
"Alright, Yates." Clara nodded, the amused expression never leaving her face, "Iβm not exactly sure where what youβre looking for is," she picked up the candle lamp and jerked her head in another direction, "But Iβll take you to where the books Iβm talking about is." Clara shrugged as she began walking, "What type of memory experimentation are you looking into, though? I might be able to recall a more specific book." She mentioned lightly.
Of course, the other girl wouldn't find it positive to be on a first name basis. Matilda mentally shrugged, knowing she wouldn't change her title usage. Last names were used to be cold in her mind and she had no reason to be at the moment. At least her speak of r & d made the girl get a more pleasant expression.
Following the second a direction was made, Matilda merely sighed, putting her hands in her pockets. "Various forms. Between us and these books, I've got a taste for distortion. Though I am trying to broaden my horizon from that. It's more of a past time casting for me now."
A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda
Clara pursed her lips at the girl, staring. It was odd how friendly Yates seemedβ Although, Clara could see, personally, how she lived up to the reputation of being the oddly nice Slytherin. She didnβt fool Clara though. No person with any good intentions gets sorted into Slytherin. But it impressed her a bit, that she could go on so long pretending. She felt she owed it to the girl to go along with it.
"Actually, Yates, you didnβt need to sneak into the Restricted Section for that. Any memory charm books can be found in the regular section." Clara jerked her thumb behind her. "Althoughβ¦" She licked her lips, "There are a few books that cover the psychological effects of memory charms in here, if thatβs what youβre looking for. I think Hogwarts felt that they were too graphic and gave far too many ideas."
The girl was clearly a skeptic. She's a loner, of course she has doubts across the board for many. It was funny, though, that Matilda was so used to reading people that she didn't need to focus into the dark for Pritchard's aura. Body language. That and eyes. The keys to everyone. She rarely encountered anyone who could disembody themselves from that human nature of themselves.
"I certainly wasn't looking for the mundane texts they do allow us to read, Clara. Those tell me nothing. I know the charms. I'm speaking more of.." She pursed her lips, tilting her head from side to side for a moment. "Experimentation.Β That's the best word for it. Traditional charms do nothing but surface work." She smiled warmly once more, but not as an offer, this time it was the satisfaction of thinking about her goal.
Friend of a Friend || Matilda and Logan
He shrugged, and thought of Pepper. βI suppose you need someone whoβd keep reminding you to maybe keep fighting against those feelings. Someone who may be able to exchange those feelings for something good.β And heβd started to do that. He was normally someone who was entirely too pessimistic. And to be honest, he wasnβt anymore, not by so much. He just thought about Pepper, and he thought heβd be better for her. βStop analyzing me.β His expression changed to that of someone guarded, and he broke eye contact in favor of looking up at the sky. He hated people who thought they knew him well after a few conversations with him. βWhat did you do?β
"Heβs Synri. He believes his opinions are right." He laughed, thinking about his best friend, who had conveniently set rules for himself in his beliefs. Of course, most of the time, he made sense. He couldnβt deny that if he needed to understand the view of a particular group, heβd probably go to Synri, who was as political as any 15 year old could get. "I think the reason the Wizarding Society is a bit of a backward one is the fact that they donβt look into the future. Theyβre stuck in the kind of world they live in now. They canβt imagine a future thatβs any different." And he would be one of the first people who actually experienced this. He was Muggleborn. And he was proud to be one. "I feel like youβre making this sound better than it actually is."
Β "I suppose," she echoed mindlessly, mind drifting back to the two boys. In a way, she figured, that's what she tried to do for Gio, but it wasn't something mutual. That didn't really bother her, at least in their friendship, it had always been that way. She cares about those closest to her or whom she lets in. Her carefree air faltered at his defensive tone and her head lowered in response. "I...I wasn't... It's a note. Y-you know m-m-more..." She paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. That stutter was supposed to be nonexistent by now. "..more about me than I do of you. You're the quiet one here..." Her gaze locked on a stone at her feet, body now seeming to clutch to the pillar to maintain the majority of her concealment from him. She wouldn't dare look at him. It would mean seeing an aura, normally mellow and passive, flickering with negativity.
"Well, to him, he's never wrong." She chuckled as well, shaking her head. Syn seemed to ooze the typical arrogance of a pureblood, a rather rich one at that, yet he still had an underlying sense of morality & sensitivity. He is a peculiar one. "You're right. Anything we need, magic can bring it forth. So why focus on all those technological advancements? If we ever actually want phones, which are pointless here, it'll be centuries from now. By then, the nonwizards will already be almost 100% equal to us in the way they communicate. They'll have...wait...they already have those webcammy thingies, right? That's basically our fireplaces... When they learn to teleport..." She rolled her eyes, yet smiled. It was really astounding how much they advanced. "Well, it may be."
A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda
Clara re-positioned the candle so that it clearly illuminated her. The voice speaking to her seemed familiar. Definitely a voice she recognized from her own common room. βYes,β Clara called down the aisle, βHello.β
Closing her book, Clara returned it into the empty slot. She never really liked researching when other people were around. βIs there anything in particular youβre looking for?β Figuring that if she helped the girl, sheβd leave quicker, Clara offered.
"Oh." Matilda chuckled, though only briefly. Clara, of course. Who else would be lingering in the restricted section?Β Her thoughts were quite accurate, most people usually got what they needed then scrammed. A girl like Pritchard seemed to find comfort in staying in such aΒ darkΒ andΒ foreboding place.Β "If I would've known it was you, probably would've already sat down."
The simple act of returning something she was interested in, made Matilda feel unwelcomed. However, she couldn't turn down an offer of assistance. Maybe the girl would warm up a little. Though she doubted it. "At the moment, memory hexes. Of all sorts. Need to freshen up mine a bit." She offered a smile, hoping the girl wouldn't be distant the whole time.
A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda
Clara was sitting, cross legged as she flipped though Hadrian Harrowβs book on Necromancy. Suddenly, she heard quiet footsteps that were far too nimble to be any professors.Β
The candle flickered slightly, and Clara hardly batted a lash. Whoever was there was no immediate threat to her. She ignored it, figuring theyβd either approach her or avoid her. Instead, Clara flipped the page loudly, making it obvious that she knew they were nearby.
Matilda stopped at the end of one aisle, gingerly turning on her heels to face the other in this area. She didn't take a step towards the person, just in case they weren't welcoming. However, after making sure her voice wouldn't be too loud, she did address the..other.
"Is the blatant flick of a page echoing around us supposed to be a hello?" Her head tilted to the side, curious of who it was. Only the silhouette of this person was visible to her, but she was fairly certain it was a girl.
A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda
The corridors were dark and eerie as the young snake wound her way through the castle. It was really so simple to stay out of bed at this school, at least while there's only oneΒ guard. He was anything but, hardly frightening, though she didn't want to run into him. The short old man probably looked like he belonged in nightmares, at least to the younger years. However, he was really more of a lost soul, finding comfort in being the "law" around here at night.
It took her a little longer than normal, but Matilda was careful not to run into anyone. Disillusionment charms only work for so long, though, so she was in a bit of a hurry.
There it was. Thankfully, never locked. At least on this part. The library's entrance was a beacon, begging for her to come back. One can't deny this particular beggar, not when wanting the same, so of course she entered. It took a few more minutes to get to the back of the library, but a quick murmur of a revealing charm proves that there are no other...wait, scratch that.
hey there
I just don't...
Anxious about what?
I hope not.
In all the times we've spent together at your family estates, it's never been just the two of us...well, aside from that oneΒ day.
Oh calm down. Of course not.Β
