like i said, when i hear people say “fiction doesnt effect reality”, i assume they never seen or heard about the jaws shit.
for those who dont know what jaws is, jaws is a 1975 film which shows, sharks. but not the friendly beautiful sharks that we see during shark week, no no no. jaws showcases a shark which pretty much eats everything in sight, you name it.
this film was inspired by a shark attack during the summer of 1916.
of course when people think of sharks, they think of them as ruthless man-eaters of the sea. but where did we start to get this thought?
JAWS. because of this film, this very film has litteratly changed our view on sharks. this film made us believe that sharks were ruthless killing machines. and how did the public react to this?
by straight up trying to hunt sharks down. people litteratly began to hunt sharks down which dramatically reduced many of the sharks species, all because of jaws. some shark populations plummted 30 to 50%.
sharks do attack people, they do, but its an extremley rare case to be attacked by a shark, youre more likely to be struck by lightning than to be attacked.
hell because of the killing tornuments, the films director is litteratly trying to protect the things he wrongly portrayed. SHARKS.
even the films director is trying to protect sharks.
TLDR: jaws is a movie about a shark, people thought all sharks are like this, people started to mass kill sharks, the film litteratly changed peoples views on sharks, fiction does affect reality
