8/21-25/2023 　モンゴルのウランバートルに行ってきました。モンゴルに行くのは初めてです。ウランバートルのCLCを訪問し、施設を見学したり職員にインタビューをしたりしてきました。モンゴルのCLCは制度や教育プログラムなど多くの部分が日本と異なっており、大きな刺激を受けました。馬やラクダに乗ったり、モンゴルならではの経験もすることができ、楽しかったです。

　I went to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This is my first visit to the country. We went to some community learning centers (CLCs), took a tour of the facilities, and interviewed the staff members. CLCs in Mongolia are so different from the systems and programs of Japanese Kominkan that I was inspired by them. 　I even rode a horse and camel. These were experiences that we could only experience in Mongolia. I had a great time!

8/20/2023 　社会教育実習という授業の一環で、学生が名取市のまちづくりに関するワークショップに参加させて頂きました。公民館の職員や市民と一緒に、地域の将来について意見を交換しました。

　As part of the course “Social Education Practicum,” the students joined a workshop about community vitalization of Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture. They discussed positively the future of the city with the residents and staff members of Kominkan.

8/9-11/2023 　山形大学で「社会教育団体論」の集中講義を行いました。テーマは主にNPOや地域づくりでした。今年はとにかく暑かったですが、受講生の皆さんもよく頑張りました。

　At Yamagata University, I gave a 3-day intensive lecture on social education groups. The main topic was on NPOs and community development from the perspective of social education and lifelong learning. 　This year, it was very hot, but buckwheat noodles, a famous food in Yamagata, helped me cool down a little. This soba restaurant was in front of the university, I always go there whenever I give my intensive lecture at Yamagata University.

8/8/2023 　1ヶ月以上にわたる東北大学社会教育主事講習が終了しました。この講習では、講義だけではなくグループによる調査研究も行われてきました。最終日のこの日は、受講生によるその研究発表会が行われました。受講生の皆さん、おつかれさまでした。

　The qualification course for the social education directors, which lasted over a month, has finished. In this course, we have conducted not only lectures but also research surveys in groups. On the last day of the course, every participant gave a presentation. 　Everyone, good job, and congratulations! I look forward to everyone being active as social education professionals.

7/20/2023 今年は学部で調査実習の授業を担当しています。テーマは成人基礎教育への質的調査です。その一環で、仙台自主夜間中学代表の中澤さんをゲストスピーカーとしてお招きし、自主夜間中学の取り組みについてお話をして頂きました。

This year, I teach a course about qualitative research methods in my department. The main theme of the course is “Qualitative Research to Adult Basic Education.” As part of the course, I invited Mr. Nakazawa, who is a representative of a volunteer-based secondary night school in Sendai, as a guest speaker. We learned about his work at the night school and his passion for education.

7/14/2023 福島県相馬地区社会教育委員連絡協議会研修会にて、社会教育について講演をしてきました。

I gave a lecture on social education to the members of the Social Education Committee in the Soma District of Fukushima Prefecture. Under the Social Education Law, Social Education Advisory Committee advises the Board of Education on social education by planning and conducting surveys and research.

7/4/2023 　日本の社会教育・成人教育、臨床心理学の研究者によるライフストーリーをテーマとした本"Life history in adult education and clinical narrative in Japan"が2023年9月にフランスで出版されます。その出版を記念して、フランス・トゥール大学を会場に、対面とオンラインの両方で研究会が開催されました。 　私は、”Rebuilding the community through narrative learning. Social education and community development in Japan”というテーマで、オンラインで研究発表を行いました。興味深い質問も頂戴し、学術的に大きな刺激を受けました。本の出版が楽しみです。

　"Life History in Adult Education and Clinical Narrative in Japan", a book about life stories by Japanese social and adult education researchers and clinical psychologists, will be published in France in the fall of 2023. To celebrate its publication, a research conference was held at the University of Tours, France, both in person and online. 　I presented my research online on the topic “Rebuilding the community through narrative learning: Social education and community development in Japan.” I received some interesting questions and was greatly stimulated academically. I look forward to the publication of the book.

6/30/2023 日本社会教育学会『社会教育学研究』第59巻において、ガストン・ピノー＆マリー=ミッシェル（末本誠訳）（2022）『人生を創造する』福村出版の図書紹介を担当させて頂きました。

In the Japanese Journal of Adult and Community Education, Vol. 59, I wrote a book review of the Japanese translation of Gaston Pinault & Marie-Michel's "Produire sa vie Autoformation et autobiographie". From the perspective of a life story, the book tackles the difficult question of understanding how individuals learn.

6/28/2023 今年も東北大学社会教育主事講習が始まりました。東北大学社会教育主事講習は、宮城、山形、福島の3県を対象に、社会教育主事の資格を取得するための講習です。最初の1週目は、富谷市にある県研修施設で行い、翌週からはオンラインも活用しながら、東北大学を会場として行います。

今年は私も受講生と一緒に施設に宿泊しました。 私は生涯学習概論、生涯学習支援論、社会教育演習の一部を担当します。

A month-long qualification course for the social education directors in Miyagi prefecture has started. Social education directors are the social education specialists who are by the Social Education Law allocated to the Board of Education in every prefecture and municipality (cities, towns, and villages with a population of over 10,000). This course requires the completion of 4 courses (8 credits) related to social education. The first week will be held at a training facility in Tomiya City, Miyagi Prefecture. From the following week, the program will be held at Tohoku University and online. This year I also stayed at the facility with the students. I will be teaching some of the classes.

6/3-4/2023 日本社会教育学会六月集会に参加しました。今年は田園調布学園大学で対面で行われました。

I attended the annual research conference of the Japan Society for the Study of Adult and Community Education. The conference is held every year in June. This year, the venue was Den-en Chofu University in Kanagawa prefecture. I learned a lot from the symposium about secondary night schools run by volunteers. These night schools offer volunteer-based adult literacy education and adult basic education programs for those who could not attend school. In Japan, there are few evening classes at public high schools. For this reason, the night school provides volunteer-based educational programs for those who want to learn again when they are adults.

5/27-28/2023 日本社会教育学会第47回東北・北海道研究集会が北海道大学で開催されました。1日目はシンポジウム、2日目は自由研究発表が行われました。私は自由研究発表の司会を担当しました。

The Tohoku and Hokkaido region's annual research conference on adult and community education was held in person at Hokkaido University. A symposium was held on the first day of the conference, and research presentations took place on the second day. I was a moderator of the research presentations. I enjoyed Hokkaido for the first time in a long time, not only the research exchange but also the delicious foods.

5/25/2023 昨年度に引き続き、今年も仙台市社会教育施設等新任職員研修において講師を務めました。タイトルは「社会教育施設職員に求められるもの」で、社会教育や社会教育施設の意義や課題について講義とワークショップを行いました。今年のワークショップでは、初めて「えんたくん」を使ってみました。

Just like last year, as an instructor, I trained a group of new employees at Sendai City’s social education facilities. I gave a lecture and a workshop on the significance and challenges of social education and social education facilities. This year, we tried using “Enta-kun.” Enta-kun is a round cardboard cut-out about one meter in diameter. It is said to help facilitate discussions. Participants sit in a circle with Enta-kun sitting on everyone’s knees, and they are encouraged to write notes directly on it as they have a discussion. Enta-kun is a play on Japanese words. The name combines “Entaku” and “Kun.” In Japanese, Entaku means round table, and Kun is the Japanese honorific most commonly used to address boys or young men.

4/6/2023 新学期が始まりました。この日は大学院のオリエンテーションの終了後、近くの公園に学生と桜を見にいきました。

A new semester has started. After the orientation of the graduate school, we went to see cherry blossoms in the park near my university. This year cherry blossoms stated blooming a few weeks earlier than usual. Then we had fried Natto. I’ve never heard of this snack. It tasted okey.

3/19-20/2023 研究分担者として関わっている科研費研究「生涯学の創出―超高齢社会における発達・加齢観の刷新―」主催の国際シンポジウムのため京都大学に行ってきました。

I went to Kyoto University to attend an international symposium. This was organized by "Lifelong Sciences: Reconceptualization of Development and Aging in the Super Aging Society," a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) project that I am involved in. After the symposium, I went to the entrance Kiyomizu Temple, but I couldn’t go in. I was surprised there were many more tourists than I thought.

3/7-10/2023 博物館研究の一環で、島根県に行ってきました。有名な美術館に足を運ぶことができ、刺激を受けました。

I went to Shimane Prefecture as part of joint research on museums. We visited some museums, such as the Adachi Museum of Art which is famous for its Japanese-style garden. It was very exciting. I also had an opportunity to visit Izumo Taisha which is one of the oldest and most famous shrines in Japan.

2/22/2023 12月に続き、岩ヶ崎高校の「総合的な探究の時間」に行き、高校生にアドバイスをしてきました。また、この日に再び「天ぷら中華」を食べることができて良かったです。

My student and I revisited to Iwagasaki High School in Miyagi Prefecture. This is my second visit since last December. We advised high school students about their inquiry-based learning. The local residents cooperate with the high school teachers in this class, and they gave helpful advice to students on learning. Speaking of Iwagasaki, we tried “Tempura Ramen,” ramen with shrimp tempura on top, which is famous in this area.
