"probably not," matt responded with a yawn. "i should probably get going anyway, i have an early shift at the grill tomorrow."

"screw homework," matt lazily replied, ocean blue eyes opening to peer up at caroline. "and c'mon car, the sheriff loves me."

“thanks, matt. i’ll be fine.” the victory in the others attitude was apparent, but stefan couldn’t fault him. what he had with elena was special, but it was over, and it had nothing to do with the salvatore vamp. he just didn’t pity this new role he’s forced to play because of this less than gentlemanly response.

A groan could be heard coming from the blonde as he stirred awake, his immediate reaction is to rest his head on Caroline’s shoulder,  "mmm, let's stay asleep."

“elena kissed…” he began to parrot the others words, brow knotted gently in thought. it didn’t take much longer than that to realize what had really happened. “she could’ve told me,” he said calmly, as he didn’t feel like getting into this kind of a back and forth with the jock. “and whatever her choice, i’ll respect it.” delivered as a warning, hazel meeting blue.

matt found satisfaction in being the one to tell stefan, after all in his mind stefan stole his girlfriend. he could only hope this would drive a wedge between the two of them, maybe even leading to their breakup. sure matt was with caroline, but even she knew matt was head over heels in love with elena. "yeah, she wanted me to keep a secret. if you need anybody to talk to, you can call me?"

“I mean it this time,” she whispered, emotion welling up in her throat. “Things are going to be different. I’m different. But it’s up to the both of us to find out if it’s for the better.”

"Whatever Vic, I'm just over this. I'm over having to be the babysitter for you and mom."

Anger flashed before her eyes. “Maybe this wasn’t about you, Matty?  Maybe not everything that happens is in spite of you!” She knew she had to get a handle of herself, to step back from the rage, but his words hurt. They dug into her like a knife. “Not that you’d care, but I actually left to get help – if you could even tell, up on that high horse of yours.”

"Of course not because like always, it's about you and what you're going through." Matt could feel himself growing angrier but he maintained a calm exterior, he wasn't one for dramatics. "And it's not like we haven't all heard that one before.

“I needed some time, okay?” the vampire snapped, growing emotional. “And I would’ve called, or something, but…” Vicki worried her bottom lip. “I didn’t think I’d ever be back.”

Matt could only shake his head in frustration, dealing with their mother's flightiness was enough without adding Vicki into the mix. "So you were just going to abandon me? Put all the bills on me while you and mom go out and get fucked up. You do realize working at the grill barely covers the bills right? I barely had enough to cover the rent, but I'm sure that doesn't matter to you – It isn't a bottle of pills."

"No big deal? Vic there was a search party, people thought you were dead. I thought you were dead."
