“I suppose we are. I should however think about this. It is a life changing choice and all. I need to weigh the pros and cons,” Sylvie said jokingly but tried her best to keep her face serious. She tapped the tip of her finger to her nose as she looked off into the distance, acting like she was thinking. Finally after a couple of minutes she folded her hands neatly onto the table and turner her attention to Matt. “Pro,: you’re very good looking. Con: not so much when you wake up. Con: Morning breath. Terrible. Pro: Morning sex is awesome. Pro: All the sex is awesome. Con: Having to deal with other girls staring at you. Pro: Getting to say I love you. Pro: Being the only one you say it to. Pro: Getting to love you forever.” Sylvie smiled. “Okay, we can be official.”

Matt just kind of sat back and watched her as she went on. Everything that came out of her mouth at that moment made him smile and chuckle -- especially because they were all basically true. ‘Pft. I look good in the morning. I’ve been told my bed head makes me look pretty amazing,’ he told her, picking up a french fry off of her plate. ‘But good. I love you, and I think I’ll love calling you my girlfriend.’

“I’m fine, that burger really did leave me stuffed.” Sylvie answered with a smile then pointed to her fries. There were still a good portion on there in case she was still hungry. “So are we official now? Like boyfriend-girlfriend type thing? Are you my first boyfriend?”

Matt nodded, and smiled once the waitress came back their way. Without a second thought, he ordered another burger, and a milkshake for the two of them to share. ‘I mean, do you want me to be? I’d like to be. And it does kind of feel like we already basically are, aren’t we?’ he asked her, leaning back in the booth as he waited for his second burger to come out.

“You act like you haven’t had any food in days,” Sylvie said before taking a bite of her own burger. She was on the slower side when it came to eating, making sure to enjoy every moment of it. Once she was finished, Sylvie leaned back in the booth and stuck her flat tummy out, giving it a small pat. “I’m so full. I’m ready to go back to the motel and sleep. I would suggest we throw a little fun in there but my little friend here,” she pat her stomach once more. “Is making me feel like I gained a million pounds. That was a big burger.”

Matt sure felt like he hadn’t had any food in days. When he ate, he usually ate a lot -- his stomach was huge, almost like a bottomless pit. Even once he was done, all he wanted was another burger. ‘I’m definitely not full. If anything, that burger was an appetiser,’ he said, flagging their waitress down to order something else. ‘Did you want anything else? Or are you really that full?’

Sylvie nodded her head as Matt spoke, though part of her was still convinced that he’d find someone else. “Alright,” she finally said with a faint smile. She was about to say more when the waitress finally returned with their food. After thanking her, Sylvie took a bite from one of the fries. “I love you too. I might love this fry a little more right now though. It’s so good.”

Matt was relieved to see their food come out. It would probably be gone within the next five minutes or so. ‘What a lucky french fry,’ he joked before eating a few of his own. ‘I mean, it could be better, but any food is good at this point in time.’ He finished most of his fries before he went on to his burger, and it wasn’t long before he finished that, too.

“I’ve seen the girls you’ve hooked up with and flirted with,” Sylvie pointed out. Her self esteem had never really been that high, especially when her sister was in the picture. “You could always find yourself finding someone better and older.” She shrugged shoulders.

Matt sighed a little bit. Patience was something he had, it was just running a bit low. Especially because he’d been driving through the middle of nowhere the past couple of days. But he knew how Sylvie could be -- he tried his best to keep it with her. ‘You say that like you’re so much younger than me,’ he said, sharking his head. ‘Don’t be silly, I love you. I’m not going to find anyone else.’ He reached over and took her other hand, squeezing it, and smiling. ‘You’re my girl. You’ll always be my girl.’

Sylvie glanced up at Matt as he said he’d rather be her boyfriend than brother. She was almost certain that was the first time he said something along those lines. “You would be the first and only person to say that,” Sylvie noted, letting go of his fingers. “Things would be weird and awkward if you decided I wasn’t what you wanted anymore, you know that, right? We wouldn’t be able to live together anymore.. I’d have to go back home.”

When she let go of his fingers, he wondered whether or not he’d said the wrong thing. Did she not want him to be her boyfriend? ‘I’d be the first, only, and hopefully the last person to say it,’ he said. Matt loved her; he wanted nothing more than for her to be happy and whatnot. And he thought he made her happy. ‘Yeah, but that wouldn’t happen, Sylvie. After everything we’ve been through? You’re like home to me and stuff,’ he said, taking her hand back into his.

Sylvie kept playing with Matt’s fingers, occasionally glancing towards the kitchen to see if their food was on its way yet. “I’m sure it would have! No guy wants to commit to a baby that isn’t his when they’re young. Or when it is. I think it would have worked.” Sylvie said with a slight shake of her head. “Or next time I’ll just say you’re my brother that I’m having sex with and that will make him run.”

‘Yeah, yeah, I know. Guys most guys are shitty,’ he said. But really, though, if Matt were ever in that situation, he probably would gone running, too. Kids were difficult. And expensive. You couldn’t have kids without money or patience -- not in this day and age. Hearing her next statement, he couldn’t help but grimace. ‘If that wouldn’t make him run, then there would definitely be something wrong with him. But, you know, I’d rather be your boyfriend than your ‘brother’.’

“More like twenty times longer,” Sylvie said, lifting her head up to look at Matt. She was just exaggerating, but it still seemed like it was going to take them forever to get to New York. She extended one of her hands to grab Matt’s, her fingers playing with his as they waited for their food and drinks. “I figured if I said you were my boyfriend he would go away. Up next was telling him I was pregnant and looking for a commitment.”

Jokingly, Matt just rolled his eyes. Though, he had to agree on some level -- it was taking quite some time to get there. But that was okay; he loved being on the road, and having Sylvie with him made it much more interesting. ‘Don’t be silly,’ he said, smiling as she played with his fingers. He kind of liked it when she called him her boyfriend. Within the past year, he thought that would be the last thing she’d want to call him, but everything turned out to be the opposite. ‘Yeah, I’m sure that would have sent him running for the hills,’ he joked.

Sylvie tapped her fingers on the top of the table as she stared at the guy in front of her before he finally got the hint and got up. “Thank you,” she said with a sigh. “I just want to eat and go back to the motel and sleep.” Sylvie pressed her forehead to the table.One thing she didn’t understand was how car rides could be so exhausting. “I shouldn’t have picked somewhere so far away for us to move to.”

Matt gave the guy a bit of smirk as he finally left the two of them alone. It was petty but he just wanted a meal that wasn’t McDonald’s. ‘Yeah, me too. Mostly eat, though. I could probably eat like three of these burgers,’ he said, sitting down in the seat that was rightfully his. ‘It’s okay. I don’t mind. It’s like driving from Phoenix to Vegas -- only y’know, three times longer. But it’s okay. I get to spend all of my time with you.’ He’d never really been the type of guy to be super cute and stuff, but with Sylvie, everything was different. ‘So... boyfriend, huh?’

Sylvie shook her head and watched as Matt came back to the table. “Yeah, it’s taken.” Sylvie repeated, looking from Matt to the guy. Still, he didn’t seem phased by what it was she or Matt had to say. Instead, he went on, telling her he was sure he was far better in bed than the guy she came with. With that said, Sylvie cleared her throat and kicked the guy in the shins under the table. “You should probably go before my boyfriend punches you.”

Matt decided to be a little patient and wait for the guy to get the hell out of his seat. After a few seconds, though, he realised that he wasn’t going to be getting up anytime soon. ‘Seriously, man, if you just get up right now, I won’t break your fucking arm,’ he said. Honestly, he didn’t want to cause a scene and just enjoy his food with his girlfriend.

Sylvie couldn’t remember the name of the town they were in but the only place that seemed to be good to eat that wasn’t mcdonalds was at the local bar. A non-fast food burger and some fries sounded good after the day on the road. With Matt in the bathroom, Sylvie did the ordering for them. Two burgers and two fries - her burger with extra cheese. She smiled to herself as the waitress walked away, only for someone to slide into the booth across from her that wasn’t Matt. “Um. Hi.” She greeted sort of awkwardly. “That seats sort of taken.” But her words seemed to go in one ear and out the other as he started to hit on her.

Travelling across the country was exactly what Matt needed, especially after all of the drama he and Sylvie had been dealing with. Finding a new place to live was also pretty great. And pretty stressful. He didn’t really know where to choose -- New York seemed promising, but the only thing they’d be able to afford there was a shack. A very crappy shack. But right now, all he wanted was a goddamn burger, and a bathroom break. Really, he wasn’t gone for more than three minutes, and he figured Sylvie would be fine without him for that long. Clearly, he was wrong as he came back to see some random guy sitting across from his girl, and obviously trying to get in her pants. ‘Hey, dude, like she said, seats taken,’ he interrupted the guy once he walked back over to their table.
