“You weren’t supposed to say any bad things about me. And I can be picky because I don’t need any friends. It would be better to be completely alone then to have someone like you in my life.”
“Well sorry I’ve done one bad thing Nixie.”
“I’m not your baby, I’m not even your friend. You’re nothing to me.”
“I only said a few bad things Nixie!” His playful tone became angry. “You can’t honestly be picky about your friends right now.”
“I don’t want you to say anything! I just want you to leave me alone.”
Forming a smirk, he laughed “Don’t be like this baby....Ssh, don’t be mad at your Matty.”
“Don’t talk to me, don’t ever talk to me again.” Nixie growls as she stars backing out of the room.
“Nixie! Stop....I’m pissed! What did you want me to say?!”
Every word felt like a dagger. The one person in this castle she could trust and it turns out he’s just like the rest of them. “Wow Matthew, I guess It’s a good thing I’d never fuck your pathetic drunken ass.”
As soon as the blonde appeared, his whole body went rigid. “Fuck.” He murmured walking after her. “Nix...You-You know I didn’t mean that shit.” He slurred out his words.
She raises an eyebrow but doesn’t say a thing about love. It’s a concept she’s never understood or believed in, and she sure he meant it in a friendly way even if the wolf within her could tell he didn’t. “Good. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
A few days later matthew had got rather drunk with his friends, and th subject of the blonde wolf girl came up. Matthew not wanting to be exposed, laughed along and sniggered “She’s a sacry bitch right? I would not if you get what I mean..I don’t want my throat ripped while we’re in bed.”
“I don’t think they will…but as long as you’re still my friend then I don’t care about anything else.”
“Nix. They’re all stupid for not loving you.” On the word love, his eyes widened gulping harshly, he took a sip of his flask. “But uh--yeah, you always have me. Rain or shine.”
“Never ever?” Nixie questions softly.
“Never...Don’t even stress about it. Things will get better.” H recited knowing for sure they wouldn’t.
“No. I don’t have to defend myself to them. I know what I did, and you know what I did. Just promise me you’ll always be here with me?”
“...O-Of course I will...I would never leave you.”
“They don’t know…or don’t believe it anyway.”
“S-so let’s make them believe...prove something!” Maybe it was his drunkeness, but he was sick of her being sad--for once he wanted to make her happy.
“That’s not true, I did plenty of bad things before I did any good.”
“...But you did good..Why is everyone such a dick?”
“It’s okay, not your fault.” She whispers back, her arm wrapping around his torso just to get closer.
“But you don’t deserve any of this..and it makes me so angry.”
“Yeah, I guess I do.” Curling into him, she lets herself get comfortable here, wrapped up in his warm arms.
“I’m sorry..” He whispered into her ear, stroking it softly, placing a soft kiss on her temple.
“What do you want me to say, Matty? Everything just sucks.” She responds softly, looking down at the floor beneath them.
Slowly wrapping an arm around her, he sighed lightly, brushing pieces of her hair away. “But you have me.”
“I am what I am.” She responds vaguely, not wanting to get into just how hard it’s been. “What about you, are you okay?”
“No. I’m not okay. And I’m not afraid to say I’m not either-” His statement was aimed at her, as his brown eyes reached hers. “Talk to me Nix.”
“Maybe…at least I was. These days, not so much.” Taking the bottle, she downs a big gulp before handing it back and leaning her head on his shoulder. “Nothings fine, but they have to keep telling themselves that it is or they’ll never be able to get through another day.”
“So...Are you okay?” Matthew asked, genuinely concerned. He was scared for her, and he cared for her deeply.
“Flattery will get you everywhere.” Nixie drawls as she sits down beside him. It was nice to have one person in this whole bloody school that didn’t treat her like a monster. “You’re missing out on the feast.”
“With you, it will. You’re an egotistical fucker.” Matthew nudged her holding out the bottle. “What the fuck? Why would I even want to go in there..I’d rather drink alone..or well-with you, and ignore the fact that everyones trying to act like everythings fine.”
