This is the video installation portion from a 2014 solo exhibition at Art is One in Seoul. The show was called “4 ways to not enjoy conversation,” a crossdisciplinary (art meets psychology) installation including performance, photography, video and an artist talk explaining a psychological phenomenon discovered by Virginia Satir.

Satir observed that when people receive a mixed message, or a “double-level message,” where the words say one thing but the body language says something else, they frequently don’t know how to react. Satir developed 4 general categories of ways people respond to a mixed message when they feel trapped. These reactions are the inspiration for this show.
