it's actually a little sad to see the dreaming so bright and incandescent while morpheus is so dark and desolate. the dreaming is literally the personification of his personality, which is full of hope and ideas and life and he just ... doesn't allow himself to embody it because he feels unworthy. he failed his masterpiece, his friends, his people, his best friend, his siblings — what kind of master does that? what does he deserve?

man, it must have really hurt to come back from that fishbowl and see his world in shambles. everything he'd worked so long perfecting, up in chaos, his best creations defected and his librarian trying to keep everything together, everything he should have been around to stop before it started.
