It is finally here, the moment you have all been waiting for. The SID analyzer.

Starting from this release, if the airport you are departing from has SID, Maverick will allow you to pick it for the desired runway and automatically compare the required gradient to what your airplane can achieve.

This adds an additional layer of safety when planning for a departure and simplifies the planning workflow.

The first iteration of this feature will include Canadian airports, and in the upcoming release we shall add US SIDs, followed by other parts of the world.

Maverick V2 is here

For the past little while we have been working on an upgraded version of our product, and we are excited to present it to you. Aside from a redesign, we have improved the user experience, added a ton of features and set the foundation for the upcoming features.

In a few words, here are the changes that we have made with our new update:

- Ability to reset stations & fuel separately, allowing you to quickly re-populate weight for your weight and balance

- Added support for center seats. Now you can use not only port and starboard seats, but also the center seats in your weight and balance

- Added swiping for seating diagrams. This improves the weight and balance calculation process for aircraft that have lots of seats (i.e. Beechcraft 1900D or Falcon 900B)

- Added extra options for seat weights allowing you to quickly populate seats with predefined values such as: max value, male/female, and etc

- Improved weight and balance profile handling

- Added trip IDs and color tags for flight plans. This will allow an easier way to distinguish the flights from each other

- Added quick action options for environment inputs (ISA Temp, Calm wind, etc.). In case a manual action is needed, you’ll be able to quickly override environment inputs, directly improving the speed of running your runway analysis

- Added FAA/TC/EASA required climb gradient option. You can now select the minimum required gradient so the application remembers it, and automatically compares your climb to this minimum without having you re-enter the required climb gradient again

- Added caution/warning indicators for all stages of flight. The app will start warning you if you're getting closer to your gradient or distance limits. Warning colors are used when your gradient is within 1% and your distance is within 1000 feet. This will increase situational awareness

- Added crosswind warnings for each airplane when it exceeds the demonstrated value

- Added density altitude and associated warnings

- Added pressure altitude warnings

- Added visual runway selection, crosswind/tailwind/headwind indicators for each runway, runway width and surface for each runway. This allows you to quickly choose your runways with more precision and get a better situational awareness at the airport of your choice

- Added horizontal stabilizer trim setting (where applicable)

- Added ability to reset takeoff/landing configurations to default values

- Added a summary page containing all calculated values making it easy to read & copy your calculations

- Improvements to METAR weather

- Other bug fixes and performance improvements

Say hello to aircraft profiles!

For those of you who fly an airplane that often changes roles (i.e. one day it's a charter plane, next day it's a cargo or a medevac,) we got good news for you.

Introducing aircraft profiles.

With a click of a button transform your airplane from one role to another.

This allows you to store things like basic empty weight, various configurations options, and seating configuration into each profile, so that when you choose the profile for the flight you are doing, your weight and balance is automatically calculated based on the selected profile.

We also included a handy interface that allows you to quickly create or edit profiles based on existing aircraft profile. Quickly add, edit or delete stations to create as many profiles as you like.

We are looking forward to hearing your feedback, and very excited to finally launch this awesome feature!

Accelerate/Stop and Landing distances

We have added ASDA/LDA numbers for all airports in North America. As the FAA and Nav Canada release new plates, we automatically publish them into the app. This data is now part of the Maverick subscription for no extra charge.

This feature increases safety margins and precision when our fellow pilots calculate takeoff and landing performance.

Excited to announce that we've introduced additional goodness into our software. Starting this month, we have included Accelerate/Stop and Landing distances from CAP for Canadian airports. Now you can decide inside the app itself whether you can meet your takeoff and landing requirements without looking at the plates.

Maverick ForeFlight Integration

Over the past few months our team has been working on this new feature, and we are super pumped to announce its release. This update allows the pilot to quickly and precisely load the flight planned pax, fuel and cargo information into the performance calculation.

How do I use this feature?

Once I've released my flight plan in ForeFlight, it becomes available inside the Maverick app. The "Flights" screen will contain all future flights (and flights that are slightly in the past).

I hit "Load" for the leg that I'm about to fly, and magically, all my passengers are distributed across the stations; my cargo is loaded into the cargo station. Also, my initial fuel as well as the landing fuel numbers are both taken from the flight plan, populated into the app, which allows me to be super precise with my speed and distance calculations. Of course, I can make quick last minute modifications to the weights and positions if I wish.

How do I add ForeFlight into my Maverick app?

Very simple. Log into your ForeFlight account, and go to "API Console." There will be a button that says "Generate API Key." This essentially is a key that allows Maverick to talk to ForeFlight and fetch the flight plan data. Please note that this requires ForeFlight Dispatch add-on.

Here is some additional documentation about API keys from ForeFlight.

Once the key is generated, paste it into the Maverick control panel (www.maverickapp.com/integrations,) and voila! Reload the app, to see your flight plans.

I love using this feature, because it gives me another level of precision, to make sure I transferred all information from the plan into the calculation.

Night Mode

Flying at night, however rewarding and serene it can be, poses a unique set of challenges for a pilot. Not the least of which, is letting our eyes to adjust to darkness, and dim all the cockpit lights to allow our pupils to expand and let those rods get some photon action. 

For me, I like my cockpit nice and dark when we fly at night, as it makes for a very pleasant environment to work at and be on top of everything.

We recently have taken this idea to our talented development team, who have developed a Night Theme for Maverick, with optimized colours, so you can run in on the darkest of nights, and be comfortable using it.

New Horizons

We've had Maverick used by quite a few pilots now, and received a ton of useful feedback. In the past several months we've been compiling a substantial list of ideas and improvements based on this feedback, so we are very excited about the future of Maverick!

Our team has an extensive background in deploying services for large audiences; we believe that incremental approach to software development is the way to go. We don't like cluttering our software with features in one massive release, and leave the doors open for bugs and potential confusion. Instead, we opt for smaller, more frequent releases, with few changes and lots of QA testing.

So having said this, here are the things we have added in the upcoming release - V0.2.8

Sending takeoff numbers:

Aside from the fact that it satisfies a legal requirement, this feature is also very convenient when it comes to sending takeoff numbers. Normally, we have to leave behind the calculated takeoff weight, fuel and c.g., and depending on the type of operation that you're running, it could be quite annoying to keep texting the numbers to someone at the office.

We solved this by generating a takeoff calculation template, and allowing the pilot to send the report with a push of a button, right in the application. Just press send and the dispatcher will receive an email with all the necessary info.

Recently searched airports:

I personally, using our app at work, use this feature quite often. We frequently go to same airports, let alone most of the time we depart out of our home base. So having quick shortcuts to pick the recently searched airport is very handy.

Approach and Landing climb gradients:

On top of the landing numbers that currently calculated by Maverick, we've also added approach and landing climb gradients, giving you more situational awareness.

Landing distance indicator:

To avoid clutter and having unnecessary information on the screen, we decided to display only one distance, which you get to choose. You can pick between unfactored, 60% factored or 80% factored distances.

Profile view:

Lastly, we came up with a "profile view" for the calculated numbers, which displays them in a logical sequence. We've heard some positive feedback about it, so we decided to give it a go, but we're always open to criticism, so please reach out to us with your feedback!

Maverick is born

Maverick is an iPad app, designed to do takeoff/landing and weight/balance calculations for high performance aircraft using the aircraft’s flight manual. 

The main objective of Maverick is to make aviation safer. It does that by: 

giving the pilot means to do weight & balance in a unique, intuitive, visual manner; 

pulling the latest weather to reflect actual conditions;

giving the pilot access to a worldwide airport and runway database; 

letting the pilot the ability to manage and change aircraft’s configuration for various modes of operation;

and finally, performing the calculations with a surgical precision of a modern day CPU.

It is available in the App Store, and works on iPads.

Before committing to using it, there is a full blown demo mode that can demonstrate the entire functionality of the app.
