"Oi be nice to me! I was teasing!", he said frowning. "I’m not cocky…" he mumbled looking down towards his food and taking a bite. When Maverick said he was already picking up girls Sam almost choked on his food. "I’m not to sure I’m picking up girls…more like they’re intrigued by the new guy and throwing themselves at me," he said shrugging. It was true though, the girls he’d saw today were eyeing him up like a piece of meat…and he felt like they were trying to figure out who would talk to him first. Sam had never really liked girls but he didn’t think that he knew Maverick well enough to tell him he was gay…he hadn’t told many people so it was kind of hard for him. Sam continued to eat slowly, not as hungry now as Mav asked him about where he came from. "I came from Georgia…I was having problems in school," he mumbled biting at his lip. He didn’t know if it was okay to tell Maverick what happened so he just kind of said it quickly hoping the other didn’t judge him. "I kept getting beat up and bullied…and they almost raped me," he muttered quickly and quietly. "L-like if the teacher hadn’t come in the locker room….I can’t even imagine," he said holding back tears as he thought of it. He shook his head and tried to clear his thoughts so he wouldnt’ break down. "It was bad…really bad and my mom was tired of the school not doing anything, because they were homophobic, tired of seeing me hurting and scared…so she found this school and I’m here on scholarship," he said pushing his food away no longer hungry because he was thinking of his past. He realized he’d ended up telling Maverick in a roundabout way that he liked boys, and sighed hating that he always said too much or the wrong thing.
Maverick hummed, a smirk on his face but didn't take back the joking comment. "Ah, well.. whatever works." He joked again, sending a wink in Sam's direction and leaning back in his seat. There was no way Maverick was going to eat anymore of what was in front of him, but he wasn't willing to end the night any sooner than necessary. Nodding as Sam mentioned Georgia, Mave really wasn't expecting the conversation to take the turn in had. Staring directly at Sam, Maverick sat back up in his seat, positive that his eyes were too wide and that the look on his face was a mixture between anger and sadness, not positive which he felt more. "They-" Maverick started to speak, but quickly shut his mouth again, not sure how to form the words correctly. Biting down hard on his lip, the older boy was trying to make mental notes and figure out what to say. Although yes, this obviously meant sex with the hot new guy was off the table; Maverick wasn't as concerned with that knowledge and it certainly wouldn't be a reason for him to stop being friends with the boy. Clearly, he was someone who needed a friend and maybe someone to stand up for him and although a majority of his relationships, even with friends, were in fact sexual; he hoped he could do something for the sweet boy sitting across from him. There was a small part of him that was concerned though, worried that if Sam found out why he was here and his ways that he wouldn't want to be around him anymore. Rape is a sensitive topic and he knew that the idea of sex-- and being around someone who was highly interested in it, might be worrisome. Mave pushed it away for the moment though, gathering his words together. "I'm so sorry." He said first, shaking his head after; being fully aware and how shit it could be hear apologizes. "Honestly, sorry. Not like shitty I'm pitying you, so I'm sorry. Because that's.." Mave's words trailed off, his brain not working as fast as it might have if he hadn't gotten stoned out of his mind a few hours earlier. "Awful. They're awful. But you're going to be alright here, okay? I haven't met one person here that's like that, I mean some of them are shit, yeah but..." Maverick breathed out again, for some reason feeling nervous as he discussed this with Sam; not wanting to offend him or make light of a serious situation. "If anyone gives you problems, just let me know. I'll take care of it." Leaning back again, the brunet ran a hand through his hair. "And sorry about the girl comments," He told him a small smirk back on his face as he tried to change the mood just slightly, positive that Sam wouldn't want to discuss it further anyways. "They're kind of gross, I don't like them either." Shrugging, Maverick figured it might make Sam feel better to know that about him as well.
