Maverick hummed, a smirk on his face but didnât take back the joking comment. âAh, well.. whatever works.â He joked again, sending a wink in Samâs direction and leaning back in his seat. There was no way Maverick was going to eat anymore of what was in front of him, but he wasnât willing to end the night any sooner than necessary. Nodding as Sam mentioned Georgia, Mave really wasnât expecting the conversation to take the turn in had. Staring directly at Sam, Maverick sat back up in his seat, positive that his eyes were too wide and that the look on his face was a mixture between anger and sadness, not positive which he felt more. âThey-â Maverick started to speak, but quickly shut his mouth again, not sure how to form the words correctly. Biting down hard on his lip, the older boy was trying to make mental notes and figure out what to say. Although yes, this obviously meant sex with the hot new guy was off the table; Maverick wasnât as concerned with that knowledge and it certainly wouldnât be a reason for him to stop being friends with the boy. Clearly, he was someone who needed a friend and maybe someone to stand up for him and although a majority of his relationships, even with friends, were in fact sexual; he hoped he could do something for the sweet boy sitting across from him. There was a small part of him that was concerned though, worried that if Sam found out why he was here and his ways that he wouldnât want to be around him anymore. Rape is a sensitive topic and he knew that the idea of sexâ and being around someone who was highly interested in it, might be worrisome. Mave pushed it away for the moment though, gathering his words together. âIâm so sorry.â He said first, shaking his head after; being fully aware and how shit it could be hear apologizes. âHonestly, sorry. Not like shitty Iâm pitying you, so Iâm sorry. Because thatâs..â Maveâs words trailed off, his brain not working as fast as it might have if he hadnât gotten stoned out of his mind a few hours earlier. âAwful. Theyâre awful. But youâre going to be alright here, okay? I havenât met one person here thatâs like that, I mean some of them are shit, yeah butâŠâ Maverick breathed out again, for some reason feeling nervous as he discussed this with Sam; not wanting to offend him or make light of a serious situation. âIf anyone gives you problems, just let me know. Iâll take care of it.â Leaning back again, the brunet ran a hand through his hair. âAnd sorry about the girl comments,â He told him a small smirk back on his face as he tried to change the mood just slightly, positive that Sam wouldnât want to discuss it further anyways. âTheyâre kind of gross, I donât like them either.â Shrugging, Maverick figured it might make Sam feel better to know that about him as well.
Sam looked down as Maverick started to speak, he didn't want to hear the apologies. Didn't want to hear that it'd get better and all that bullshit because he'd heard it from every grown up or therapist that knew about his situation. He wanted someone to fucking understand how scary it was for him to have someone he trusted, someone he'd had feelings for call him a faggot every day and beat him. He was ridiculed and beaten and when he stopped fighting back then they tried to rape him, told him if he was a fag they might as well use him since he was just trash anyways. He hated telling people because it put him back into the mindset that he was going to see his abusers again around any corner and it made him jumpy and afraid.
"It's not like people go around advertising that they're scumbags Mave. They were nice to me at first too...became my best fucking friends and then started beating me...so yea I don't really believe you wen you say that no one here is like that. There are people like that everywhere," he said still not looking at the other boy. He was curling further into himself. He couldn't handle this. It was just his first day and he felt like he was breaking again, all the time it'd taken him to put himself back together to put up a strong facade was breaking just by telling one person. One person who probably wouldn't even give a shit in a week.Â
"Can we go?", he asked quietly just wanting to go curl in his bed and cry....well after he went through his coping mechanisms and fought off the urge to hurt himself before just giving in because it always made him feel better if just for a while. "I'm sorry I ruined everything...it's just you asked and...I thought I could trust you but I was probably stupid...and yea," he said still not looking up to see Mave. Sam didn't trust himself to look at the other without giving how absolutely vulnerable he felt away. And one of the most important things he'd been taught in therapy was to make sure that he didn't make himself seem weak, and that he didn't give people the opportunity to walk all over him, because that's how things had started before. "Fuck you probably think i'm mental and never wanna see me again...," Sam said scooting out of the booth and walking towards the bathroom to try to breathe. His heart was racing and he felt like a lunatic. Why did he even care what this boy thought? They were just partners on some stupid school project....
