Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)
So, I want to make a note that Miley’s birth name was “Destiny Hope.” Miley wasn’t her real name. It was based off of her nickname: Smiley.
THAT SAID: This doesn’t excuse the fucked up nature of Billy Ray’s behavior because it implies/brings to light a few more fucked up things.
- This means that a girl who was known from her smile, her sunshiny personality had the light snuffed out of her by child stardom. Smiley was soon shortened to Miley by her parents.
- This also means that at some point Disney was so obsessed with this little girl that they changed the name of the original Hannah Montana character, Chloe Stewart, to reflect the innocent nickname of Smiley/Miley || They also considered the names Kylie and Zoe.
- This also created a nightmare for the actress as she got older. It likely caused an identity crisis because imagine balancing three identities. At one point, Miley Ray Cyrus was touring as BOTH Miley Stewart AND Hannah Montana.
- Disney/Hollywood Records owned the name “Miley Stewart” eventually forcing the actress to change her name to reflect her childhood nickname in order to have ownership of her own identity.
- The child acting industry is irrevocably fucked.
Quick note: hi, this is my RP blog but I’m actually reblogging my comment instead of hiding in the replies because (1) it’s oddly relevant to this very inactive blog about my OC who grew up as a Disney star. (2) The atrocities of the child acting industry is tangentially connected to my special interest. And (3) I just think this is important for people to know just how messed up Hollywood is and for us to be aware the lengths major companies go through to take our parents' money for our entertainment.
I need everyone’s best character advice. STAT.
You're not creating real people, you're creating the illusion of real people. You don't have to mention their favorite food if it doesn't come up, you don't even have to know it, though if they were actual people they'd have one. You can throw plot events at your characters to force them to take certain actions, or you could just rewrite the characters to be the kind of characters who would take those actions anyway. Your characters have a life of their own in their own little world, but don't be afraid to play god to get what you want out of them.
In the vast majority of cases, a character's strengths and flaws should be the same thing. There are exceptions (you can have a character be clumsy for the lols without needing to find some way that it's an advantage), but for most character traits, the difference between a flaw and a strength is the situation at hand and learning when to indulge it.
desire is the source of action, so your characters should WANT things. all of them should have something they want that's good for them, something they want that's bad for them, and something that's just a little silly, for spice.
If you’re ever stuck on what your character should be struggling with or if you’re struggling with something specific to your character’s creation/development. Make your problem their problem.
From example: If you’re trying to figure out how to give your character conflict when they’re a god that can do everything, perhaps they are disillusioned by the fact that they can do everything?
Or perhaps if you feel like your character has no real interests or anything good to show for themselves in comparison to other characters, perhaps they feel the same way?

My other character advice is this: you need three (or four depending on how you look at it) things for a character to work.
1. Like mentioned above, they need a desire.
2. They need a fear. Not like a fear of spiders. I’m talking like a big fear. Such as a fear of abandonment or being an embarrassment.
3. They need a misbelief that is rooted in their fear and somewhat warps their desires.
For example: a small town girl that longs to be a superhero but fears that she’ll never shine a light on all the heroes that come out of the big city. Her misbelief tells her that the small town is holding her back and that she truly desires to shed all signs of her ever being apart of said small town in order to be a hero.

this is gonna make me sound very Old Man Yells At Cloud but i just hate how many things in my life assume i will always have access to a quick, reliable internet connection and almost cease to function without it. Obviously certain things Have To Have An Internet Connection, but i want to be able to listen to music if my service is bad. i want to still watch movies if Netflix is down. i want to have a working map when i can’t get a cell signal. nearly every tech product these days bears the fingerprint of the extremely internet-rich places they are developed, high rent offices in Seattle, San Francisco, etc.. I think often the idea of the internet not being available is so remote to them it doesn’t even factor in to development. i remember when the Xbox One was debuted and Microsoft was almost mockingly like “if you don’t have reliable fast internet, then don’t bother buying this”, and there was such backlash they completely went back on so much of that. But now that attitude is just the tech norm.

It’s so weird responding to this from my dead roleplay blog but It’s 6 am and I don’t wanna switch emails right now.
ANYHOW: I doubt this will get traction but I wanted to share Windows93 with everyone. It’s on the web and it’s not a solution to this problem in the slightest but it does resolve one thing: being forced to pay money to use cloud services. It’s not a super reliable storage system but it is there for when you’re wanting to fucking save space on your computer and One Drive is being a bitch or something.
I won’t pretend to know that I understand the whole purpose of the website, I mostly use it because it has stupid little fun mini games and the entirety of Star Wars: A New Hope in ASCII. But I have used it to quickly store images for all the little art projects that I’ve had in order to make this blog as ✨aesthetic✨ as possible. It’s been quite helpful, even if it’s a temporary online storage solution.
When you boot it up Windows 93, there’s a readme on the desktop, read it because I’m pretty sure it explains it purpose better than I can.
talking to a friend about how Tumblr has become easily the best social media platform and it's kind of like, Tumblr's that participant in a footrace that somehow broke their leg at the halfway mark and just gets passed by by everyone else but now five years later all the other contestants are getting disqualified through being Just Awful™ and Tumblr hasn't even crossed the finish line but there's like actually nobody else left, so they win the race by default

if yall want good info on how drugs work as a writer - particularly if you arent someone who dabbles in illicit substances - bluelight forums is an excellent resource. its meant to be for harm reduction but its community sourced info with hundreds of people posting their personal experiences and tips to be safe. i personally love using it to research for writing anything that i havent tried.
Erowid is also very useful! It’s more focused on providing information for researchers but harm reduction is a common theme. So, Info about the drugs, personal stories with ages, weights, drug combinations/interactions, etc. Helped me fine tune how much weight my OC would be losing with his cocaine habit.

hiya folks. It's been a minute...or like a month. As always, you can reach my by messaging me, I always have tumblr notifs on. I might not be online but I'm one message away. Don't know when I'll be back? ....got hooked on a Star Wars hyperfixation. Good news is that the Star Wars RP server has enabled me into adapting Aiden into a Star Wars OC. SO, that will be an AU I'll set up... at some point.

Gonna be retconing some of Aiden’s backstory. Mostly rewriting his immediate family that way I can talk about them more. Father’s Day got me to realize how much I needed and wanted to do this. I can’t develop Aiden’s relationship with his dad & won’t be able to until I do this.
