hello! this summer i am hosting a dtm watchalong. come join!
dtm stands for deutsche tourenwagen masters, and is a racing series for modified gt3 cars. similar to f1, the drivers and teams are consistent throughout a racing season, and there is a drivers championship, teams championship, and manufacurers championship.
(there are a lot more technical regulation stuff that distinguishes dtm cars from other classes, and we will be seeing changes in those regs throughout the seasons we watch, but we won't get into the nitty gritty of that right now. unless you want to, in which case, hit up deputy tanz: @renndistanz.)
a dtm race weekend consists of two qualifyings and two races. qualifying 1, on sat, sets the grid for race 1, on sat, and qualifying 2, on sun, sets the grid for race 2, on sun. each season has 8-10 race weekends.

what dates does the watchalong run?
we will start jun 1, and i expect us to run to around september. i cannot say for sure when it will end because 2019 is still in the air, and we may need to cancel some dates for other real-time racing things.
we will be watching from 2015 (because that's the year luggi auer started and he's my new muffin) to the present day. we will be watching one race weekend every day (special circumstances potentially withstanding). "days" will be counted in cest (utc+2).
every sunday at 6pm cest, i will create a post with the schedule for the upcoming week (i am one of those annoying people who counts the start of the week as a monday) with links to each of the qualifyings and races. all links will be the english streams, but i will also provide a link to the whole playlist for the weekend so you can find the german streams and also see all the other videos from the weekend (such as highlights, onboards, etc).
all dtm races are on youtube, but are geoblocked in some regions. if you are in a geoblocked region, use a vpn set to germany. if you don't have a vpn, firefox has a free built-in vpn. if you don't have access to a computer, proton vpn is free for mobile.
what are the watchalong activites?
make it your own! i personally will be creating a post for every session with my thoughts, personal highlights, and updated championship standings. i will also be created a dedicated yapping post (DYP) at the head of every day (12am cest) as a place to chat with everyone in the comments. and i will liveblog my watching experience, but i cannot promise a consistent time or that i'll do it every day.
if you want to do one post of highlights, if you want to liveblog your own watching experience, if you want to share pictures from the race weekend, if you want to do dedicated analyses, if you want to share your thoughts via ask, if you want to comment on other people's posts, or if you just want to lurk, go for it! the world is your oyster.

this is a low pressure thing (despite the rapid pace). if you want to participate but need to skip days, or don't want to watch qualifyings, or only want to watch races i give glowing reviews to after the fact, then all good. i myself can't promise that i will be able to do it every single day! (that being said i will always post a DYP). the schedule is there to guide us, but if you watch or chat or post late or not at all, no worries :D
okay, so what's this 'dedicated yap post' thing????
essentially, i just want a place where we can all chat! you are always free to make your own posts, reblog anybody else's posts, yap in tags, leave comments under other posts, etc., but if you have thoughts that you want to share without making your own post about it, or you want to see what people who aren't me might think about a race, the comments section of these posts can be a place for that.
really, i'm just trying to keep this watchalong on tumblr (instead of, say, discord) so we can all participate, and this was my best idea for how we can all chat in one place if desired.

only for me, sweet thing, don't you worry. every week will have a posted schedule, and i will also include the day's session links in the dyp every day. the dyp will also have the time that i plan to liveblog that day (on days i liveblog) if you want to join along.
