“That’s very gentle of you,” she replied ignoring the phone buzzing inside her purse, having her eyes on the bartender in front of her, admiring her view as he would finish her drink. Laura would hardly leave work for a couple of drinks, if she had company then perhaps it would seem like a good idea, but drinking by herself had always made her feel lonely. Coming from a family where every type of celebration or moment that would involve alcohol would be around more than five relatives, she was used to big crowds, she was used to company. Once he handed her the drink, Laura grabbed it, moving the glass up and taking a sip from it. Eyeing the man as she allowed the drink to go down her throat, she placed it down the counter. “Ay, Dios Mio. This is so good!” She laughed, taking one more sip from it. “Have in mind that I might ask for more soon, hoping I’ll stop before I’ll embarrass myself in front of you,” she replied sharing her focus between the drink and the one who definitely deserved attention.
Moving the glass down to rest at the counter, she moved her hand offering him her hand. “I’m Laura, by the way. I’m usually more fun than I’m being today, that I can say.” It didn’t hurt to spend her time with the bartender, it was better than being alone, and she was certain that he was used to hearing people’s problems and complaints, not everyone would go to a bar to celebrate, sometimes alcohol would be what they needed to avoid issues, like she was avoiding at the moment.
“I’m always gentle.” Max added with a smirk as he glanced up from the mixing cup to the hot brunette in front of him, winking on her direction. He was gentle, but he was also a flirt. He flirted with everyone because it kept himself from thinking that he was treating someone in a special way or something. He didn’t need Jackie, his psycho ex-wife, coming into his life, and destroying yet another relationship of his. But he liked the attention, and he liked making women feeling better. Sometimes, when people were having a crappy day, all they needed was someone to listen and to tell them that things weren’t as bad as they thought it would be. Which, it seemed to him, was this woman’s case. Gorgeous, yes. But she looked stressed enough to grant herself a free drink. Bills weren’t stacking up, his only problem was Jackie and her custody battle, but he could buy this woman a free drink. Her day looked shitty enough or that.
She laughed approving of his drink and Max joined her in her laughter for a moment there. Why did she keep telling him that she might be embarrassing herself or coming up with excuses for her behavior was beyond him, but he wasn’t going to call a stranger out when she was already having a day, so he leaned against the bar top, his dark eyes locked on her hazel hues and he linked his fingers together. “There is no way that a woman like you can embarrass herself in front of me. C’mon, with your looks and your accent? Impossible.” Again, he winked, before stepping away from her, because she might find his distaste for personal space a little bothersome. He had heard some complaints before anyways. Turning around when she introduced herself, Max took her hand and brought it up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss upon her knuckles. “Hello, Laura. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Max.” He offered her a smirk as he lowered her hand and shrugged. “I’m sure you’re plenty of fun, but bad days happen. I’m just glad I was able to put a smile on your face, even for a a moment.”
