Name: Maximillian Max Dennison Age: Twenty-nine Occupation: Record Store Manager Sexuality: Allison Unsure Pronouns: He/Him Currently Playing: Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede Big Three: Taurus sun, Gemini moon, Libra rising
The Dennisons lived outside of Echo Isle for most of Max’s childhood, until his dad got a job on the island and they were forced to move in the middle of high school. A lot of resentment was held for his parents for making him move away from his friends, but it all disappeared the moment he laid eyes on a blonde girl named Allison in his homeroom on his first day of school, Halloween of sophomore year. He tried giving her his number, but was turned down until they spent the entire holiday together with his sister, Dani.
Max knows what he saw that night, and while the Sandersons aren’t exactly physically present in their lives anymore, he still lives in a lot of fear that some idiot will be as stupid as he is and light the Black Flame Candle. Although he comes off as a chill guy, he has a deep anxiety that only Dani has an inkling about. Every Halloween, he feels the need to board up in his basement and hope that the trio won’t show up at his doorstep.
After that first Halloween, Allison and Dani went on researching about what happened and how to keep it from happening again, and Max just couldn’t get on board. He wanted to stay as far away from Sanderson shit as he possibly could, and while he tried to keep the two from going on and investigating without him, they were both too headstrong.
Allison was the perfect girl for him, and he cannot be convinced otherwise. When she decided to move away, though, he couldn’t follow. Truth be told, he was afraid of what she would find beyond Echo Isle, whether it be about the Sandersons or figure out that she was just too good for him. Max knows that she deserves a hell of a lot more than he has to offer, and he can’t believe that he even got the chance to love her in the first place. It’s weird having her back, but he doesn’t want to make it any weirder by making any moves.
Ever since the borders closed, Max has felt some sort of tingling every now and then, and he’s not sure why. It seems only to happen in instances when he’s away from Dani, though he can’t seem to find any other connection. It’s almost like he feels pangs of pain out of nowhere, but he’s too scared to investigate what it is, and if he tells Dani, he knows that she’ll just go off and research it herself, so he’s kept it to himself, for now.
He’s had roommates ever since the incident because he can’t stay in his apartment alone, and he can barely close the record store by himself. The last thing he wants is for Dani to worry, so he keeps this part of him to himself, but he’s not sure how much longer he can keep up the act.
Max used to be a fucking legend at D&D before the shit with the Sanderson sisters happened. Now, he refuses to play because that would imply the existence of magic. Even fake magic, that’s a nope from him.
Max still sleeps with stuffed animals and a weighted blanket because he’s convinced they’ll protect him from his nightmares. During the day, he hides them under his bed. The only person who knows is his college roommate because they fell asleep next to him drunk once. Not even Dani knows, and if she ever finds out, he’ll probably have to kill her.
He loves a good rom com. Max used to take Allison on dates to the movies all the time, and now some of them are kind of ruined for him since he can only really think about watching them with Alli.
Max was admittedly a huge pothead, and he attributes what happened with the Sanderson sisters to being a little high that night. There was absolutely no way he was hanging out with a girl like Allison without giving himself anything to ease his anxiety. Now, he refuses to smoke out of fear that something like that night will happen again.
His most prized possession is his beat up, probably should be in a junkyard car named Trixie. Dani named it, and now it’s stuck.
