Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (Part 1)

The sequel to Alice in Wonderland, Looking Glass follows Alice through a dream land where a chess game serves as narrative structure. (oops how did that tattoo removal photo get in there)

The story opens with Alice talking to her cats, wondering about the world on the other side of the mirror. When she reaches out and touches her reflection, her hand sinks through the glass.

So, of course she must see for herself!

She discovers a room where everything is backwards/strange yet the same, poetry that can only be read by holding it up to the mirror, and a set of living chess pieces.

Outside, she finds a sunny garden full of flowers that can speak!

In the garden, she meets the Red Queen, who shows her that the world is a chess board and tells her that she is to take on the role of a pawn.

It's ok, we know in advance that Alice will succeed in eleven moves, it's written right at the start of the book!

Coz she's a mastermind

On her travels, Alice finds strange insects such as the bread and butterfly.
