i never thought of myself as umemiya... but it actually makes sense now 🤔💭
I've seen a lot of posts about whether Suo should return to Makochi or stay in Bankoku-Gai. And putting aside the fact that I have a super long opinion on this, what I really want is to see Suo CHOOSE to return or stay (or stay in both places, I don't think that's impossible), and to do it because he WANTS to, not because he feels he HAS to. We don't know the whole story yet, but it seems like Suo is always thinking about what he MUST DO. So I want his decision to be based on what he WANTS.
Suo is about to have some Nami level of backstory, I can feel it. His sense of responsibility is holding him there, he left Nirei and the rest of them that way because he knew no matter how much he wants to, he can't stay in Furin forever. He wants them to leave him, so he can continue living the way he's used to.
And Sakura should barge in, guns fucking blazing.
Also, this arc isn't about Sakura learning to let things go. I think that it'll be about Suo learning he doesn't need to shoulder so much, or that he can be a kid if he wants, or him letting go of his responsibilities at the red chanpu. It's not about Sakura this arc, it's about Sunfei.
I see so much of teen me in Suo and I need someone to get that kid out, lend him a hand, give him a hug, don't let his demeanor trick you, he seems happy and calm and put together but there's too much responsibility on his shoulders (and trauma probably) and no matter how intelligent, skilled and mature he is, that's still a 15 year old, he should not have to be shouldering all that.
I'm sticking to my passive suicidal ideation Suo headcanon now more than ever.
And what if at the end of the arc, when they've fixed or are well I their road to mending what is wrong, someone else who's older takes Suo's spot as officer so Suo can actually enjoy some of his fucking childhood and get his goddamn highschool diploma with his friends at Furin please. He still goes back to Bankoku-Gai, but stays over in Makochi so he can properly rest and all.
Also, you can love a place or the people in it with your whole heart and still the trauma can make it hard to exist properly there all the time, and that could be Suo's thing you know.
It really is a bit like a golden cage situation when you think of it...

The little detail of sakuras uniform being a crumpled mess on the ground is killing me.
His uniform is almost always neatly put up on the hangers, even after Keel and getting sick but now that he's learnt more about Suo leaving he's a mess.
The art during Endo and Sakura's fight in the Noroshi arc/war was SO TOP TIER and I feel like people don't talk about it enough

told myself i was never looking at this again, but i think some of you forgot how he looked during the fight with nirei. i dont think this was just because he had to leave. he's dying on the inside

when you starve yourself like that you don't even want to risk eating a little bit because it'll ruin everything you've worked so hard to control and you're only going to feel more hungry.
imagine how much he looked at his friends eating to their heart's content and knowing it can't be the same for him or any of the people he cares about back at home.
he's so hungry, he's so envious, but he can't risk it. the guilt of coming home with a full stomach will weigh him down further than any amount of calories will.
honestly i want suo to stay in his city if he really does love it. i wished for it to be as good as it sounded, and it does look amazing in this chapter. it might have a tense community, but it's also rich with culture and camaraderie. it also seems like suo has a place there -- he belongs, and everyone adores him. he's so dedicated to his role, and although it's a lot of pressure on him, we can't act like furin doesn't have pressure to protect their town as well.
as much as i want furin to get suo back + considering how coldly he left them and how much they want him back/how much he misses them, i think it'd be a meaningful message about being able to let go of people you care about. you've enjoyed your time together, but now it's time for you to part ways, and it's okay. there's nothing wrong with that. you were my best friend, and i love you, but i can be happy that you're where you need and want to be now. good times can't last forever, and suo leaving is a nice show of that. (however, good times are possible after that period as well, you just need to learn to adjust!)
