How Fur Weâve Come
Nepeta furrowed her brow in confusion, trying to follow what her former master was saying about the force and his age, nodding wisely the whole time. Most of what he spoke about the force went right over her head, which left her in the unfortunate position of either having to pretend she understood what he said or changing the topic. She opted for the latter, since the first option would always lead to more preaching on the topic. She waved her had nonchalantly, rolling her eyes and replied, âYes, yes, whatever you say about the force, you are still a grumpy old bear to me.â Nepeta stifled a laugh behind her hand, knowing the bear comment would probably send him off on another tangent, though she wasnât sure what route he would go with this time, but she thought it would either be respecting oneâs elders or taming the beast.
Her gaze flickered down as the movement by his feet caught her attention, where the small white cat whom she lovingly referred to as Khotet Junior, not that she would ever call him that in front of her former master, was rubbing against his legs. She smiled, watching as the cat all but disappeared in the albino Wookieesâ lap, easily blending in with the matching fur. Nepeta grinned happily, taking Khotetâs comment of being a prime hunter as a compliment. âSometimes you just have to go on the purrowl.â She replied, chuckling to herself. Â It had been many years since she was small enough to effectively hide by clinging to his back. She had done it all the time as a jedi youngling, feeling safe and protected nestled in his fur. It was also why she hadnât been able to flee to safety with the rest of his pupil when the group was corned by a group of Yuuzhan Vong during the war. Â
While, many of those early memories were fuzzy and faded around the edges, she remembered the ambush in perfect clarity. Nepeta owed her life to Khotet, though he saw things in quite the opposite way, even going so far as to swear a life debt. She did owe her life to him though, in more ways than just that moment. Khotet was the reason she returned to the Jedi Order after her parents reclaimed her when the war was over. He was the reason she was everything she was today. Why she was a Jedi Knight, why she was a kind, iif not also sassy, person. Nepeta owed Khotet more than just her life, she owed him everything.Â
