Here's something I wrote in my Google docs a while ago.

It started almost eight years ago at a school called Evergreen Academy for Magical Minds. You see, Opal's world is very much magical. Many people had powers and there were special schools for people with them. People automatically get into these schools if they are descendants of people with them, but they get sent to regular schools if they do not find their power before middle school. This is uncommon, but it happens. If they do find their powers before that, they stay in the magic schools.

When Opal was a baby, her mother gave her a necklace that was said to elevate one's powers when worn. Almost nobody believes in stuff like this anymore, and Opals mom gave it to her because it was a family heirloom. But there was one instance when it may have been activated when Opal was in 5th grade.

When Opal went to Evergreen Academy, she was lonely because she didn't know her power—almost everyone else did at the time. She stayed inside at recess and doodled under the watch of her teacher, Mrs. Scott. But one day, a new kid came in during recess who had the same homeroom: Penny. They became best friends and Penny let Opal read her stories that she wrote in her notebook. Through these stories, Opal found out that Penny didn't know her power yet, either. This helped them gain confidence and they went out to recess.

During the recess, however, there was a big storm. Thankfully, everyone got inside before it got too bad. However, the storm occurred just as Opal started to get frustrated with another classmate. She thought that it could have possibly been her that caused it, maybe it was her power? She discussed it with Penny during roll-call and they were both on the fence.

The next day, Opal started to doubt herself because she didn't have her power. Maybe it was never going to come. Maybe she overestimated herself. Maybe she was unknowingly being self-absorbed by assuming she had a power big enough to cause a storm… But Pennys always-cheerfulness reminded her that, even if she never found her power, at least she made a friend.

But that's not the fairytale end to this story.

Backstory on what this even is: I wrote a story for a school assignment aaaaaall the way back in 5th grade, and I was reeeeeally proud of it, so I started writing a continuation of it on my own time where the two main characters reunited in high school. This is the first part of that where I recapped the original story.

I haven't written anything for this in a WHILE (this part I'm posting, I wrote forever ago), but if anyone's interested in seeing more of this, I might be up to posting/revising everything else I wrote and continuing it, who knows~
