I can’t believe MBJ just said there’s no black folklore/mythology I’m just here like:

Clearly you didn’t read the whole interview he was referring to the film industry on how it’s not many black mythology you see in the mainstream. In the interview Steven Caple Jr. brought up white icons and Greek mythology in films and that’s when Michael brought up black mythology.

And clearly I’m aware of the whole interview, my issue is how he PHRASED it. He phrased it as if black people do not have folklore/mythology at all (and I’m not sure if he was referencing the entire Black diaspora or AA)

To simply put he should have emphasized how Black mythology in GENERAL is not mainstream in both the realms of academia & entertainment industry. Instead of phrasing it as if we don’t have it at all.

The phrasing of his quote is implying that. Cause why did he say “creating our own mythology”, when there’s already a plethora of works to choose from and adapt into film and tv shows?

Obviously there’s the option to create more, but if he was gonna SAY THAT couldnt he have said create NEW folklore/black mythology?

-Name examples of black mythology created by black Americans that isn’t rooted in slavery... that’s what Michael B. Jordan was talking about and he literally said that.

-What Michael B. Jordan is talking about is creating our own folklore and mythology from our own modern/contemporary experiences and bringing those to the big screen.

-In a sense, that’s what shows like Atlanta and Insecure are doing yet y’all sit on social media claiming they don’t properly represent the “real black experience”, so in that case, answer the call of what Michael B. Jordan was talking about
