Paul McCartney, George Harrison and John Lennon in 1962.
📸 Mike McCartney
May, 1995: Paul, George, Ringo, and George Martin listen to take 1 of ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’.
RINGO: How is he doing that? How is that drummer doing that, George?
GEORGE M.: Oh, he had to be very brilliant, Ring.
PAUL: It’s just brilliant.
is the beatles fandom aware of the fact that brandi carlile (folk rock and americana singer-songwriter) is married to a woman who worked closely with paul mccartney for many years? catherine carlile (formerly catherine shepherd) was paul's personal assistant and charity coordinator for ten years according to her linkedin. brandi is pretty famous now, but at the time they got together (early 2010s) she was a lot more obscure (she certainly wasn't out here winning grammys or making albums with elton john). there's this anecdote in brandi's memoir (which i listened to on audiobook so i don't have screenshots) where apparently, when catherine quit working for paul so that she could move to america to be with brandi, she framed it to him as "i'm quitting for a new job opportunity!" at which point paul took her out to dinner and asked her basically, "wtf, why would you go work with some obscure folk singer in america when you're literally working for paul mccartney?" and it was only at that point, apparently (after ten years of working for him) that she said "lol, i'm gay and in love with her." and according to brandi he then ordered an expensive bottle of wine and was like "who am i to stand in the way of romance?" and i guess the two of them got drunk together on that expensive wine?
idk i think this is such a weird story for so many reasons. like imagine having to tell your boss of ten years who is also paul mccartney, "i'm leaving you to go be a lesbian in rural washington"??? apparently catherine and paul are still fairly close too (again, according to brandi's memoir) so good for them.
me too georgie
