Holy shit who taught this bird to sing opera
video description: a small bird stood on wooden flooring, singing the iconic high staccato bit from the queen of the night aria. he doesn't perfectly hit all the notes but still does a pretty good job. there is a human hand shaking a container full of cotton buds next to the bird for some reason.
Cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus)
Joy and whimsy detected! This post is joyful and whimsical!
re: video transcription - I still don't understand the reason for shaking the cotton buds, but it's clear that this is an indication to the bird to sing - at the end of the video, the person stops shaking and the bird stops singing and only peeps out the last note at the first minute movement of the cotton buds
when I tell you I had to do a double take because I thought these were 2 parts of the same whole joke
TIL that the reason lead levels in children’s blood have dropped 85% in the past thirty years is because of an unknown scientist who fought car companies to end leaded gasoline. He also removed it from paint, suggested its removal from pipes, and campaigned for the removal of lead solder from cans.

Yep. It also correlates extremely strongly with an increasing decrease of violent crime. One of the symptoms of low level constant lead exposure is increased aggression and volatility.
“Unknown scientist”? That was Clair Cameron Patterson.
Gas companies are still so mad at him he’s “unknown scientist”, know his name
Daily reminder that health and safety standards like these are what politicians mean when they talk about “deregulation.”
Patterson died 5 December 1995.
Petition to make his date of death a Tumblr holiday celebrated by talking about cool shit the gas and petroleum industries don’t want us to know about, and fighting to continue his work.
Happy Clair Cameron Patterson day!
Oh, hey, it’s almost Clair Cameron Patterson day!
It’s tomorrow, everyone!
Remember: we celebrate on his death day because the battle hasn’t ended. He had to put down his weapons. We have to pick them up.
i depend on you (like a comet pulled from orbit)
“Someday there’ll be a celebration throughout Oz that’s all to do with me.” 💔
You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

damn i wish u guys could read this fic i haven't written and this fic i haven't finished writing and this fic i'm putting off outlining and this fic i outlined but haven't started and this fic i'll never write and this other fic i haven't written and this fic that exists only in vague impressions in my head that fall apart every time i try to commit them to the page and th
the worst part of "you'll understand when you're older" is that you really do understand when you're older
The second worst part is, once you get older, you find yourself saying "you'll understand when you're older" with Full Comprehension of how fucking annoying you're being right now, but also knowing that it's all you can say.
Pipe sprung a leak in the bathroom the other day and the cat came and bothered me about it and I can't stop thinking about it. She doesn't know what a towel or a mop is but she knew there was an unauthorised fucking Wet and she trusted my ability to rectify the situation
