The John O'Groats watermill is almost certainly the last grain mill to be built in Scotland. In use until 2001 and still completely intact. A time capsule, inside it is exactly as it was over a hundred years ago.
John O’Groats Mill is part of @DoorsOpenDays again this year on 18th September 2021. If you are in the area, go along and learn more about the history of the building and the future proposals.

Another image of the proposals for John O'Groats Mill showing an aerial view looking south. This particular view shows the green roof of the extension blending in with the adjacent landscape.

The Chair of the Kirkmichael Trust reflects on the history of the project from early fundraising to reach an award winning project, and continued community engagement by volunteers. It was a pleasure to be part of the project.
Some more images of the proposals for John O'Groats Mill showing the interior of the extension and a concept diagram. The extension is tucked into the adjacent landscape with a green roof to tie it into the surroundings.
A dozen Caithness projects have have been hailed as "incredibly exciting" after being awarded more than £300,000 between them.
Congratulations to John O’Groats Mill Trust for securing funding from the Highland Coastal Communities Fund for the all-abilities trail from the car park at John O'Groats along the coast to the mill.
My Prince Philip story; I met him once when I was employed by Studio SP as a conservation architect for the refurbishment of The Highlanders’ Museum at Fort George. It was a project I had been working on for over 2.5 years and when I was introduced to him, he quipped, “Architect? Not much for you to do here.” He was in his 90s and he must have met over 100 people that day and had a comment/query for each of them. Images by John Paul Photography; other people in the top photo enjoying the joke: Tim Pethick and Shanta Dhariwal of Studio SP/Nomad Exhibitions; Douglas Wylie of Arup.
Nice to get a credit for my role as assessor for the 2021 Civic Trust Awards.
Lots of nice comments and feedback on the John O'Groats Mill Trust's Facebook page to the proposals for the Mill.
