Noemi looked up from where she had been absentmindedly peeling the label off of a water bottle. McKenna looked... different. Not in any negative way, but like someone whose brain had recently been introduced to a new operating system. An update, if you will. "...No, I think that's just you." Her eyesight drifted to the half-eaten cupcake in McKenna's hand and then back to her. "How many of those did you eat?"
This was precisely why she wasn't eating anything without some kind of label or verbal warning that the food wasn't laced. This was exactly what they expected. "You're high," they said, matter-of-factly. "Haven't you... been high before?" A curious question. Most college students, even the losers like herself, had indulged.
mckenna tilted her head in disappointment that noemi couldn't hear it, but she shrugged it off almost immediately. "um, one and a half," she answered noemi, "and they're delicious, and look how cute they are, they're little batties! god, i wish i was a bat. i would flap my little wings and probably also be a vampire...god, that would be awesome," she laughed.
"um, high on life, maybe - i don't do weed, sweet noemi," she said with an exaggerated eye roll and a laugh. "but no, i've never been high before, i don't even drink. i've been drinking shirley temples all night!"
