Bones has pierced nipples and Jim had never noticed because Bones wore undershirts that are far thicker than the standard issue ones and Jim had just assumed that Bones was prone to being cold with all the layers he wore. One of the best and worst things about having Bones along on diplomatic missions was the color commentary. The doctor was generally good enough to keep it from the ears of their hosts, but it made maintaining the solemnity of being Captain really hard. The bastard knew it, too. The insults kept getting more creative.

Until one day he was overheard and Bones had to learn more than he ever wanted to know about interplanetary protocol.  Good thing Bones is also very good at kissing ass, both literally and figuratively.  He just had to wash his mouth out with lots of bourbon when he got back on board the Enterprise. ;-)

❅On a mission, it was Bones who saw the phaser aimed at Jim. Bones who tackled Jim out of harm’s way, and ended up with a burn through his shoulder for his trouble. When he woke up in medbay, it was to a Jim who looked miserable, but who started to yell at him the second his eyes were open. “How could you do that!? You almost died!” he snapped, and Bones reached out to grab Jim’s hand. “You’re worth to me.” Jim looked like he’d been slapped, and slowly sat down. Nobody’d said that to him before.

❄❄❄ Imagine Jim and Bones making dinner together in Bones’s tiny dorm kitchen. Imagine how the first few times they try they knock into each other and get in each other's way constantly. Imagine them slowly become a team and work together flawlessly.

❅ Spock is the one that gets Jim and Bones together. He notices that they're 10% less productive after the Khan incident and believes it's because these illogical humans are still avoiding their feelings for each other and haven't talked about the Khan events. The quickest way to solve this is to call McCoy up to the bridge to see the captain while he's in his ready room and overriding the locks until they "solve their emotional issues and return to their normal productiveness."

Oh gracious, this is perfect. Bones wants to avoid talking about the topic and tries to escape. He can hardly look Jim in the eye when they finally see they aren’t getting out until they come to some sort of resolution. It only takes a bit of prodding and a gentle hand on his shoulder for McCoy to nearly break down. Jim breaks down with him, because as terrifying as dying was, losing Bones, even just their friendship, scares him just as much.

An hour (or more) of tears and repeated confessions leave the two finally look each other in the eye (and more), and they finally convince Spock to let them out. Bones chews out both Spock and Jim (who says he had no hand in this, but McCoy begs to differ) before muttering his thanks.

❄ Jim’s first xmas in San Francisco is unbearably weird. He can hardly process the fact that he isn’t buried under feet of snow, let alone the fact that it’s actually hot, so he barricades himself in his room and turns the temp way down to wear a sweater and drink hot cocoa in peace. Bones grumbles most of the day, wrapped in at least three blankets, but when Jim asks why he doesn’t just leave Bones gives him the most incredulous look and says, “I ain’t leavin’ you alone on Christmas, dumbass."

❄ Jim & Bones touch so much that no one can actually tell if they're dating, cause one moment they're walking around shoving each other into walls & the next Bones has his arm around Jim like it's nothing. It's confused everyone from the Academy to the Enterprise, until one xmas Jim's crew hangs up mistletoe to see if they'll actually kiss. They do, of course, & someone blurts out "So you are dating!" Turns out they're not, but they sure as hell are by New Years when they kiss again at midnight.

❅ Imagine a Grimm!McKirk au with Jim as Nick and Bones as Monroe. Bones helps him despite his every bone telling him that Jim can't be trusted and that he should run away before he's killed and Jim sees the real Bones and trusts him implicitly once he learns that Bones is a doctor. despite the occasional glimpses of his wesen side which Jim is actually starting to find kind of cute. They slowly fall in love and do the world a lot of good in the process.

Anon, you must have read my mind, because I love Grimm so much. And I love this AU idea.

I think this would definitely be a slowbuild though. With Carol as Juliette, and when things go…sour for Carol (I’m avoiding spoilers for those who haven’t seen the show, but for those of you who have, you know), Bones really becomes a support for Jim. That longtime friendship between them builds with the extra support and their relationship turns romantic.

In this case, Monroe and Rosalee (Gaila) never got together, but perhaps Bones and Gaila are roommates and she runs the spice shop still.

❅There's a padd left on the desk in Jim's ready room that he didn't put there. When he powers it on it reads "Midnight, on the bridge. Come alone." Jim looks around the room for other clues but finds none and shrugs. At midnight Jim goes to the bridge and is happy to see Bones there waiting for him. "Turn on the viewscreen, Jim," Bones says and Jim does. What he sees is a brilliant nebula and a bunch of their science probes floating outside and lit up to spell out the words "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"

Aaaahhhh!!!!! This is wonderful!!!! Jim would completely jump him after this, though, right there on the bridge, so I’m pretty sure the rest of the crew who are waiting somewhere to jump out and celebrate with them will end up having to wait awhile. Hopefully they’re waiting in the lift so they can make a quick exit when they start hearing the sex noises. 

But this is so adorable. I can see the whole sequence with Bones and Jim in my head. Thank you so much for this. :)

❅Bones lets himself in at the muffled yell he gets in response to him ringing the chime on Jim's door."It looks like you're in trouble there. Can I help?" Bones asks as he watches Jim struggle to get his dress uniform on correctly. Jim has managed to tangle himself in it by not bothering to unbutton it and trying to just slip it over his head but the fitted material had gotten stuck. "Mmph," is Jim's only response and Bones can't help but laugh as he helps Jim untangle himself.

❄ ❅ ❆ Imagine Jim with his head in Bones lap as Bones reads his medical journals, he's on the verge of falling asleep because he's so comfortable and content with the way Bones is running his fingers through his hair even though Bones probably doesn't even realize he's doing it because Bones had tried to push him away before. Imagine Bones carefully carrying Jim to bed after he does. Imagine Jim waking up with Bones wrapped around him. Imagine them sharing their first kiss when they wake up.

❅Imagine Jim taking Bones out on shuttle rides to get him used to being in space. They do tons of short small trips to slowly edge him over the fear of take offs and landings. Then they progress to longer tips to acclimate Bones to the feel of space travel, the hum of the engines. Jim shows Bones as much of the mechanics of the shuttle as he can because he knows that if Bones understands how things work he's more likely to become comfortable with it. They always have waffles after their flights.

❅Imagine an X-Files mckirk au in which Leonard McCoy is assigned to be Jim Kirk's partner and hopefully bring his cases, the explanations, and reports back down to earth. Jim is a firm believer in extraterrestrial life and the supernatural and Leonard McCoy is a coroner who wouldn't believe in unicorns if he saw one in broad daylight. It takes them a while to gel as partners but they eventually they find some things they have in common and Jim stops being suspicious of Bones and his every move.

He's the most relaxed when Jim cuddles him like this because he knows that they're both safe and alive. It's even better when Jim throws a leg across his hip to keep him in place.
