Rose looked up from her work—though she wasn’t actually at work and should relax for just one second—and squinted at the person in front of her. “I can stop at any time,” she stated firmly, though they hadn’t actually said anything. Most of the time people were telling her to just stop, to do something, anything, else. She hardly listened, and that was her own fault, considering she hardly slept anymore. “I don’t work that hard. Really, I don’t.”
Louis’ hands flew up at her definitive voice. With a small grin, he shrugged, saying, “I never said you couldn’t. Are you trying to convince yourself or me?” He didn’t wait for her to answer before reaching forward to pick up one of her sheets. “I just came to give you a hand. Just finished up something of mine, and you clearly. You know. Don’t look stressed at all.”

The journey had be long and treacherous but it seemed that this safe castle ( she couldn’t really call it a house, now could she? ) held a lot more than she had hoped for. Sure there was plenty of food, a warm bed, hot water but there was just something that made her feel uneasy about it all. Nevertheless her determination won out and though she stood there freezing with clothes and injuries that mirrored how hard the past year of survival was, Celeste approached the nearest person. “Have you seen a guy…around my age about– this tall and looks like the grumpy cat?”
His hands clutching at some parchment, Louis spoke over his shoulder without so much as looking up. “That is a pretty accurate description of many people around here. Any more specific?” He folded down the corner of one of the pieces of parchment, and looked up. “Oh, shit. You all right? I mean this as nicely as possible, but you look like hell.”
( out of magic. ) // hey y’all!! i’m jessie, she/her, 17, gmt-er!!! i’ve got a lot of Feelings about almost everything so catch me crying 24/7!!! i’m gonna post nyssa’s stuff first bc i was only going to take one (1) character but clearly i cannot stop myself !!
NYSSA AVERY really is the spitting image of DICHEN LACHMAN, right? For someone onlyTHIRTY years old, NYSSA has been forced to endure so much. Yeah, that PUREBLOOD has been scraping by at the sanctuary for SEVEN MONTHS now, working as a LEADER & PATROL GUARD in the DIVISION OF PROTECTION. SHE identifies as CIS-FEMALE and is known to be ILL TEMPERED and STOIC but also DETERMINED and STEADFAST. Best of luck surviving through this.
[ TW: abusive relationships / non explicit implications of emotional child abuse, parental death ]
there are two averys locked up in the prison the castle holds, and the first one is nyssa’s father, the second his brother. if that doesn’t already set the scene of her family life, she’s not exactly sure what else does. her uncle had been the most prominent of the avery brothers; the louder, the more bloodthirsty, the more dedicated death eater. and nyssa doesn’t want to say that he corrupted her father, but her father does act more venomously around him, so. whatever. when they arrived to hogwarts for sanctuary seven months ago, these two high ranking former death eaters were imprisoned immediately – nyssa’s crime was nothing but to have been born, so she set her chin and took her place in this makeshift society without them.
nyssa prides herself on making herself from nothing. she will only own up to several things of her father’s: his eyes, fists made for breaking, a cold smirk. he tells her that she had two things from her deceased mother: her self-preservation at survival skills and a weak heart. he had said it cruelly. he had said it with a sneer, so nyssa took her fists for breaking and used them to bury her heart deeper. she hates that there’s a part of her that will always subconsciously want her father’s approval, when she has lived through so much and done so much. it’s a complicated thing, this familial relationship — she doesn’t know how to explain that she feels so much anger, so much disgust for him, but is reduced to something small under his gaze. how she cannot turn her back on him, even though she should. how they won’t let her do certain things like be a prison guard, something she is both grateful and frustrated about, so has to visit him herself. how she can only bring herself to do it rarely, but she. she still does it.
her father gave her another thing: his tainted surname, and it has haunted her. they keep saying that they’re better, they will not equate villains to their children, but nyssa knows better. she knows stigma attached warily to death eaters still, how hard it is for most people to separate her from her father when she holds herself the same way; cold, a cruel tongue, a blankness in her eyes she has perfected. it is different though; the blood on her knuckles is from sparring, not from torturing. she has no reason to hurt others. she just wants to survive. she just wants to get out of this fucking zombie apocalypse alive.
this one-track, no shit attitude is the reason she is one of the leaders of the division of protection. she is not afraid to do what is necessary. she will make tough calls and she will refuse to feel guilty, she will shoulder any anger sent her way with a tensed jaw. you can’t be a slytherin in the years straight after a war where death eaters lost without being able to use your spine as an armour. cool, detached, emotionless. it’s a solid motto. it’s how she got through her childhood, it’s how she’s getting through life. at least it’s working. she’s still here, isn’t she?
honestly, she’s quite lonely. her mother had died in the crossfire of some battle or another a few months after nyssa was born, when the second wizarding war was coming to a close, and her father never spoke about it other than that. but she had no siblings, and it’s been her and her father and his anger and her anger, and – she’s grateful for the quiet now that there’s this distance between them, literally. but she thinks she would’ve liked a sibling.
nyssa takes her job very seriously. she takes most tasks that she’s given seriously. in charge of patrol guard rotas, she knows that she does not have to put herself down as often as she does, but she does it anyway. she’s determined to pull her weight at hogwarts, not willing to chance getting accused of not deserving to be here.
before the inferi outbreak, she worked as part of the invisibility task force in the ministry of magic, something she is very proud of.
not sure if anyone cares but here’s her pinterest board jdkgfhgdf ( x )
