Over the past year I've been slowly working on a gaoranger/wild force helmet using a scan of the screen used stunt helmet

Oh fun! It's looking great so far. Are you filling it with wood filler??? Not judging it'll get the job done. If you need a good red for it krylon matte fire red over a white basecoat! Also highly recommend testers extreme diamond dust silver. no idea about the metalic highlights. some people try and match it bronze, others use testers fiery orange. I think nemoy just uses a metalic red? Alot of the old sentai reds were tamiya fire engine red but that color got retired ages ago.

Had a good ass weekend at castle point anime day 1

And my so far highlight of the year. I did all 4 days at anime NYC!!! Huge shoutouts to muteki sales where I became the self declared intern for the weekend becuase Rider 2 on Firday gave me instant blisters and I basically couldn't walk the con floor the last three days of the show!!! And also shoutouts to the kamen rider/general tokusatsu meetup Saturday! We're getting a hell of a community out here on the east coast. Put tons of faces to names that weekend. And, naturally, my Gozyu wolf belt rode up during the big photoshoot and I didn't notice, and the red fell apart. I also went with foam for the thighs instead of the pants I had at kaiju brooklyn and uh, didn't work great! doesn't help I had to change in the mens room and the fishnet I was gonna put over the pants went unworn... Also I was gonna wear Ultraman on Sunday but couldn't finish the helmet, tried to do Orb but I couldn't wear a full bodysuit with my blisters so uh. Closet cosplay of Shin from Dorohedoro instead! So my theme went from the big three of toku to "association with the number 1" I guess. Pardon all the instagram screenshots I'm very lazy.

BUT. Kaiju Brooklyn was fantastic last year! I uh, only have the one picture of me as gozyu wolf. :c.

Alright alright I always have a bad habit of saving tumblr for last but this has been like, a whole ass week. But uhhhhhhh. I got to wear ToQ Ichigo out finally!!! I got salty everyone else I follow on instagram got to be vips so I wanted to go all out. At a MOTHERFUCKING TOKUSATSU CONVENTION. Kind of, well explicitly, but it was a basement venue in NYC. I went to Tokusatsu Fan Con!!! Solo, because everyone else bailed on me. But it was a blast! Got to put faces to suits for alot of the local east coast tokusatsu cosplayers. Randomly discovering mutuasl on other platforms were people I've seen cosplaying before. I feel bad because I had to mostly cannibalize other peoples social media pics. Not the knight survive pic though that's on shinken red. Most of these were taken by either latinnerdcosplayer's partner/ryurangers or by geki yellow. Genuinely one of the best atmosphere's I've ever seen at a convention. Outside of a little bit of drama towards the end it was an outright fantastic time. Hopefully we can get another one of these! I also almost passed out from dehydration more then once which was not great. That's on me though!

I went to a con last weekend! Got to break out some old favorites.

Last con of the year over! I went to Anime NJ++ yesterday, and always left posting on tumblr for last also. It was. Genuinely my new best con experience hands down. So like, kamen rider is important to me right? I'd be actually dead without finding it when I did. As a symbol of hope, of humanity, and as a reason to press on. Kinda important with where the US is at right now and all. But usually, it's like, one in every 15-20 people I pass recognize me as "a rider" at a convention right. Every second person went HOLY SHIT IT'S ICHIGO. Which granted I'm usually rocking Ichimonji not Hongo. So it's gone from being mistaken as Ichigo to, being just friggin Ichigo. And yeah face of the franchise, THE first rider. But, like you have to understand here. EVERY SECOND PERSON. I WAS FEASTING. IT WAS GENUINELY SO GOOD. Like it helps that media blasters was hosting the con, and literally just put out the 90's rider trilogy on bly ray two weeks ago now. I'll get to you yet long goal of cosplaying ZO... BUT IT WAS THE MOST RECOGNITION I'VE GOTTEN COSPLAYING RIDER. WHICH IS IMPRESSIVE, COMING OFF OF ANIME NYC WHERE THE SAME ALSO HAPPENED. JUST LESS FREQUENTLY. I also got to chat with a ton of other tokusatsu cosplayers in a meaningful way, not people actively cosplaying but people who still do cosplay this stuff. We really really need some kind of dedicated tokusatsu convention on the east coast. Anyways I usually try and save atleast a little bit of exclusive stuff for tumblr, be it a slightly more edited video or pics I didn't feel like sharing on other platforms. I really don't have anything else this time. But it was genuinely a great time. I've had a really high bar set from my first big step back into cosplay a few years ago but it's finally be dethroned, twice in the same year even. Doing this stuff is really refreshing. The main reason I keep my tumblr around is, well it's nice to post into the void. But if you're browsing tags and thinking about doing any kind of tokusatsu cosplay? Do it. Just do it. It's so rewarding and fun as long as you find the right sliver of the community.

Next year is going to be very showa era centric for me I think. I've still got ZX and Amazon in the pipeline. OG Rider 1 and 2 are gonna get some love. I still have vul eagle but I need to redo alot on that before I wear it. Honestly I might redo the chest on To Q Ichigo too just so it looks better. Also I've been buying peps for stuff I don't want full 3D printed helmets for just yet and uhhhhhhh. I am doing my first ultra very soon apparently! I was hoping to do Jack but I didn't buy the suit for it while it was still up so uhhhh. I got one of those print suits for cheap. The Tiga ones always look good so I figured it was worth a shot for under 20$. So the original Ultra it is!!! Which is exciting, I'm always happy to give showa era heroes love after all. I'd do Seven too if there were printsuits but, nope. Just his son and I'm not cool enough to do Zero. Sourcing suits for Ultras that live up to my minds eye is hard, so naturally going the cheapest possible option is the only way I'm getting my foot in the door for that. Will I upgrade to a printed helmet once I get more space for helmets? Yeah probably. My big thing going into next year is to wear what I can from the backlog, focus more on rider cosplay, and do what I can to stick to my modular cosplay goals. Hibiki, Agito, ZX and Amazon are my big focus for right now. BUT; and I never said as much on any socials, my goal of one ranger from every 90's sentai is also going pretty well. I have the bare bone basics ready for Red Hawk, already did tiger ranger, did shishi and ryuuranger. And for Kakuranger I'm working on ninja black. But I uh, am also realistically doing Red too for that. Besides thatttttt. Mega Silver is in the pipeline. Which is to say, Stick sold me old helmets again so I have ninja black, mega silver, time green, and gosei red coming. Ontop of a kit of ninja red he bjorked I need to pay him for still. For the Kakurangers I'm doing the suits by hand, silver I'm buying a cheap pre-done zentai of now that I have the option for that. Might do the same for gosei red just because stretch fabric is a pain. Time Green I'm just doing fosshape for the chest on and calling it a day on the metalic green I already have. Filling out the rest of the 90s will be hard depending how I actually feel about the ohrangers (probably doing green). Carranger is probably gonna be blue, and I'll figure out gingaman when I get there. I passed on a gingablue helmet because I'd want the same nylon I already use for my reds, and that's more then I'm willing to put in right now. As for non tokusatsu stuff it's just. Stuff I also needed contacts for. Little bit of spidey ideas. Short jacket star lord, or just long jacket again. Probably both honestly. And I've had MK Reptile in the closet for like two years. That's gonna be my summer default if it's friggin 90 all season long again. Anything else will be determined by halfbaked desires and spirit halloween clearance. Lion Maru if I can get a good base going for it. Some indy video game stuff maybe. More obscure literal who japanese super hero stuff if I can muster it. We shall see~.

Hey ya'll ready to see my last cosplay of the year? I already posted this everywhere else about a week ago but; AFTER 5 YEARS I'M FINALLY DOING HONGO TAKESHI. Mostly because everytime I cosplayed Ichimonji everyone called me Ichigo anyways lmaooo. This helmet was my first real commissioned piece but, is also WAY too small. I had to get new contacts just to be able to wear it... BUT it looks the part (outside of being broken in the back) and that's what matters! Not breathing, or ears existing. Just looking like a 1972 upgrade to an iconic hero helmet. So this is basically just me having cut the arms off of my old rider 2 outfit and having made a new bodysuit for under that. And it looks fantastic! Oh this turned into a LONG longpost hold on...
