“I have a secret.” He felt his own lips smirk, as he tucked a piece of hair behind her ear then took a step back.

“Come with me.” He held out his hand and Penelope hesitated for a moment before placing her hand into his own. She was so trusting in him, and his heart almost shattered as his body led her to stand before the altar.

“What’s your secret?” she asked, blinking up at him with round, wide eyes. He seemed to be teasing her as he slowly bent down to whisper into her ear.

“I am going to ruin you.” The words came out breathless, and he could see her shiver, as he pulled back and watched her eyebrows furrow in confusion.

“He has spoken to me, relayed a message,” he said after going on for a bit about all the work everyone was doing, and how proud he was. Penelope shook in her seat, fear spiking in her heart again.

“It is time. I must take a wife.” His eyes were on her again and she knew. This is what the ticking in the back of her head had been. Since the moment her mother had been pulled into this cult, his dark deep eyes had been locked on her. Every move she made, every breath she took she could feel him watching, waiting, plotting.
