‘ OH, IT IS PLENTY EXCITING. ’  she says with a heaved sigh. she loves the city, the culture, the entertainment, it’s the people that get to her.  specifically — ‘ but it contains far too many of my brothers for my comfort lately. ’  not that she doesn’t love them, or the family they’ve all built in the city they helped create, but for once in a thousand years, she’s decided to live her own life, instead of the ones her brothers want her to live.  ‘ they set me free, and i — ’  she shrugs, looking around.  ‘ i ended up here. ’

because he’s right. once this town is in your system, you can never shake it. she knows that far better than most, as her eternal life always seems to end up back here, somehow, someway. though, she’s really only back now because she wanted to check up on him. far too many years have passed that she hadn’t seen him.  ‘ i had to make sure you were still kicking. ’  she grins at him, arching a brow at his words.  ‘ — oh? well, i cannot wait. i want to know everything. i want to hear all about your life, sheriff donovan. ’

“too many Mikaelsons? I can relate to the sentiment.“ he had a visit of the mikaelsons a couple of years ago and it was enough for him to remind him the troubles they brought him and his town. thankfully it was one night only. there is a softness to his expressions as she speaks, and he just nods. even when they traveled together, all she ever wanted was FREEDOM. “i’m glad you are enjoying your freedom, Rebekah. you deserve it.” and he means it, despite all. it’s no secret he likes her more than the rest of her family.

and he looks down at the calling of his title. SHERIFF, still something that never kicked in his mind. it wasn’t something he pictured himself while growing up, and yet here we are. “well, there isn’t much to tell about me. the town? now that is the biggest change.” and he looks at his watch and his phone for a second; no missed calls or incidents, today had been a pretty quiet day. “Then come on in. Do you still drink champagne? I figured this calls for a drink.” and then a gentle pause from the now older man. “it really is good to see you, Rebekah. you look good.”

                   not   his   right   .        that   was   an   odd   way   of   looking   at   things   ;      wasn’t   he   the   the   one   who   was    dead    ?      but   to   his   point   ,      he   wasn’t   the   only   vampire   she   had   turned   :      damon   ,     stefan   ,      pearl   ,      annabelle   ,      and   many   others   were   also   sired   by   her   .      out   of   all   of   them   ,      donovan   had   suffered   the   least   damage      (    and   for   the   best   reason   as   well    )    .            ❝        how   is     tyler     doing    ?      or   are   you   two   on   the   outs   since   he     killed    you      –––      does   he   even   know   that   you’re   alive   ?      considering   the     condition     you’re   now   in   .   .   .        ❞

“he is fine. though it was all part of your plan, isn’t it?“ he doesn’t tell her that he hasn’t seen Tyler since he died. it was a sore spot for him still, and something dragged him to visit katherine pierce herself rather than his friend. psychically, matt might be fine now, but that didn’t mean the memory of that night still taunts him. “it wasn’t really him who killed me, though. IT WAS YOU.” it was always her. and somehow, despite all, she managed to come out on top of everything.  “I came here first. had some questions. maybe I just wanted to watch you suffer.”

We can just skip out waiting all those years you know. “The fun part. There is no fun part knowing your father would kill me. Or any of your uncles for that matter.“ And Matt just shakes his head at the attitude, but hey, she was convincing and persistent. two qualities he admired enough. blue eyes look down at joined hands and then looks away, breathless chuckles escaping the sheriff’s lips. “it’s just a crush, Hope. it will go away.”
