We're watching Scooby Doo
I'm starting at the beginning and watching by order of release.
Each episode gets a post.
Yes we're watching the Supernatural crossover when we get there.
The New Scooby Doo Movies S1E2: The Dynamic Scooby Doo Affair
Location: near Gotham City. Our guys have been to Jersey.
Scooby Snack Count: 3! We're so back baby
Bat Snack Count: a whole bag full
While they hunt: we haunt!
Jinkies!: from Shaggy??
Scooby Dooby: where am I?
Actual crimes committed: counterfeiting
This is one that I have the individual dvd for! I remember bits of both episodes with Batman and Robin, but don't remember exactly which one this is.
Ooh spooky plane landing. Plus the creepy house! I love it. Immediately.
Iconic line- "President Lincoln Never Wore a Turtleneck Sweater!"
I felt so smart and cool watching this episode. The mystery of everything nailed to the floor. The tire tracks. The footprints. And Batman constantly telling the gang they're doing a good job. Then later Joker and Penguin's use of alliteration and advanced vocabulary (to a seven year old).
Casey Kasem voicing Robin is sending me for a loop. How did I not notice that any other time I've seen this.
I also didn't know this was a crossover with a specific Batman cartoon! I thought it was Adam West Batman. I want to watch the show now- it was the Batman segments from the Batman/Superman Hour.
Oh! The upside down house with the counterfeiters and the fun house were the same episode. I remember them being separate. The aesthetic sort of changes halfway through the episode. There is a second Batman and Robin episode though- have I seen that one then?
This episode is very nostalgic for me. I used to watch it on Friday nights while my parents played pinochle with the neighbors.
I think this is the first female villain! And good for Mrs. Baker for getting pissed when everyone assumed she had to be a man. Women can commit crimes too.
The New Scooby Doo Mysteries, S1E1: Ghastly Ghost Town
Featuring: the Three Stooges
Location: Texas
Scooby Snack Count: zero? So sad
Actual crimes committed: Uranium smuggling, sabotage of a theme park
Scooooby, scoobity doo!
Big fan of this theme and the "Hey Scooby!" bit. When I was little my favorite part was Daphne in the pretty dress on the gondola.
I'm curious how many of these I'll remember. Some of them I know I love (I have the Harlem Globetrotters and Batman and Robin on their own dvds) but I'm not super familiar with a lot of the other guests, so how many will I have seen and just not recognized as a celebrity cameo? We'll see.
THEY CRASHED THE MYSTERY MACHINE
she's been through so much
Velma gets to get kidnapped today.
I like that this episode shows things that the Gang doesn't see, like Crunch pulling the lever and the quarter going in the player piano.
Fred's digging himself a deeper and deeper hole this episode. Daphne is having NONE of his shit.
First episode and we already have disrespectful Native American representation. They sort of acknowledge it as a farce by having it be a wooden cigar store statue come to life, not a real person, but still not my favorite thing.
Oh neat! Uranium! That is not healthy! The main concern is radon in an enclosed space like that. Do not recommend.
Shaggy asked for a hamburger. Pretty sure that is inherently not vegan. I thought this was the period where Casey Kasem insisted Shaggy be vegan. I'll have to do some more research on which episodes that was.
While Scooby and Shaggy are trying to dig everyone out of the mine, they keep saying "we have to rescue Velma and the Three Stooges." Did they forget about Fred and Daphne? Was the original plan to have this happen before Fred and Daphne got stuck down there? Is Velma simply their favorite?
Shaggy doing the "what a great idea! Glad I thought of it!" bit that the Stooges did earlier in the movie is a neat callback. Connecting the two.
I like the animatronic gunslinger. He's unnerving with the black button eyes and the mechanical voice. I think there was an animatronic version and the costume Crunch wore, which is kinda fun.
I love a good uranium deposit. Poor Dingbat does not.
Just letting Shaggy take home a bag of uranium 😭 I'm jealous tbh. I collect uranium glass and the like, but just a chunk of rock would be cool.
A fun episode with most things tied up nicely at the end, but a lot of gags that don't go anywhere or don't end up being relevant. Like the Cactus Man or why this ghost town theme park has so many trap doors into radioactive mines.
There are some *phenomenal* one liners, both from the Scooby Gang and the Three Stooges!
What's your favorite Where Are You episode?
Mine is Hassle in the Castle. It's peak Scooby Doo to me. Space Kook wasn't my favorite as a kid, but now I really appreciate the aesthetic.
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? S2E8: Don't Fool With a Phantom
Location: KLMN tv broadcasting station (not a real station until 1978) (presumably
Scooby Snack Count: two handfuls, plus another
One way flight: to South America. Nowhere specific.
Do something: *cries*
Chase Scene Song: Pretty Mary Sunlight by George A. Robertson, Jr.
Actual Crimes Committed: embezzlement, faking a kidnapping.
This is it. The final episode of Where Are You. This is exciting.
At first I thought this was one of the Boris Karloff episodes. Then I thought it was the one with the record demon. Then I saw the radioactive green man and realized I've never seen this episode before.
The tv station KLMN wasn't a real station until 1978, when it was founded in Great Falls, Montana. I think this is supposed to be set within California.
Mystery Moped Appearance.
I will now be opening my door with "shh, there's a cemetery nearby." It's about two blocks down the street and they deserve some peace and quiet.
(This is the point where I fell asleep)
We've got some good Freddy and Daphne content this episode. They're being cute. Not a braincell between them.
This is not my favorite monster cry. I like him better when he starts trying.
"Not the old 'ride on the conveyor belt into the wax' routine. Oh no. Like, that went out with the silent movies, Phantom ole pal."
This is like the third time this show has done this, lol.
This was the first episode that I genuinely don't think I've seen before! I quite liked it. The wax phantom has a cool design, Freddy's feeling a little bit extra, Shaggy and Scooby are in rare form. A great end to the series, but one that leaves me wanting more.
Tomorrow we start the New Scooby Doo Movies!
If I finish my homework we can finish season 2 tonight
I had such high hopes.
I did finish my homework, but at 1 am. This time it's only 11 and we're watching Scooby Doo tonight.
If I finish my homework we can finish season 2 tonight
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? S2E7: Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Werewolf?
Location: California forest
Uh oh: paydirt. For once Freddy's not too keen on a clue, lol.
Chase Scene Song: Tell Me, Tell Me by Austin Roberts
Actual crimes: graverobbing, sheep rustling
He's... greener than I remember. I remember this episode but I don't remember the werewolf being so saturated.
I would love to find an old graveyard while camping. That's some spooky fun.
Again, it's not just a werewolf, it's a ghost werewolf. Important distinction.
I definitely tried to copy Scooby with the trash can lid wings when I was little.
The commitment to leaving the werewolf bald after the barber shop scene is excellent. Usually after the distraction scenes Shaggy and Scooby get up to the damage is undone. Baldwolf is silly.
Sheep rustling being the motivation is also great. Was that a big issue in the 70s?
I paused the title sequence 😭
Scooby Doo, Where Are You?S2E6: A Tiki Scare is No Fair
Location: Hawai'i
Luau count: 47+1 for a job well done
Scooby Shaggy Snack Count: 1
Skeleton: "it's a skinny spooky!"
Chase Scene Song: not this episode!
Actual Crimes Committed: colonialism.
The volcano animation is gorgeous. The colors and the smoke are so pretty.
"You mustn't go there! It's haunted!" Or, better reason, the locals asked you not to.
I'm always going to take it with a grain of salt when the ghost is based on a generalization of a nonwhite culture. Especially when it's based around a religious or cultural figure.
I think the art of the Hawai'ian characters is acceptable- there's variation in their features and they're not showing the island as populated by white people. Lieutenant Tomoro is cool but I wish he'd been a character from the beginning.
Why put plastic leaves on the plane. There are plenty of real ones around.
"The trick mirror in the Mystery Machine" why did you bring your car to Hawai'i and why did you pack a funhouse mirror? Always prepared, I guess.
This is the first episode where the character of color isn't the criminal. That's a bit of progress. White Man Terrorizes Locals to Steal Resources and Wealth is a pretty good headline, huh Mr. Simms?
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? S2E5: Haunted House Hang Up
Location: Somewhere off I5, California
Scooby Snack Count: 2 for being difficult, 1 for the Flytrap Lily
Scared: yes
Curious: no
Chase Scene Song: Love the World by Austin Roberts
Crimes Committed: breaking and entering (by the Scooby gang and Asa Shanks).
Gorgeous house. I love old, probably haunted mansions.
Balloon ghost in the well is such a cute little guy.
The head on the painting disappearing and reappearing is such a cool, spooky detail. Plus secret passages, tunnels, libraries, fruit cellars, and ghosts with cravats.
I hardly remembered this episode until "Stillwall shows the way," then everything came rushing back. I loved this episode. Still do. The mystery elements, the aesthetic, it's great.
Love love love that Penrod Stillwall has absolutely no reason to be doing this. It's his house, his money, there are no other heirs. And scaring people off doesn't even work- Asa is in the attic scaring him the whole time. He's just committed to the bit and I respect that.
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? S2E4: Scooby's Night With a Frozen Fright
Location: Laguna Beach, Oceanland
Fred's attempted catchphrase: Jumping jelly beans!
Scooby Snack Count: 1 for brain power
Chase scene song: Seven Days a Week by Austin Roberts
Actual crimes committed: kidnapping, academic dishonesty
This is horrible storage and transport conditions for a frozen archeological specimen.
If he's 2 million years old he's not a neanderthal as I initially suspected. Based on his size being pretty tall for an ancient hominin, I'm going to guess he's a Homo rudolfensis. I have no qualifications to make this assumption, I'm just here for a good time.
"Professor Ingstrom sure is acting suspicious!" A tarp is running towards you making horrible clanking sounds. Don't act like you wouldn't also run away.
The shark and swordfish costumes are so unnecessary but so cute! I love them.
It's been a while since we've mentioned "Danger Prone Daphne." This is the angriest we've seen Fred since he felt like a side of beef.
I like that episode. The gags are cute, especially with the sea lions throughout the episode.
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? S2E4: Jeepers It's the Creeper
Location: a rural area near the high school.
Chase Scene Song: Daydreamin' by Austin Roberts
I'm in love with: an ostrich? This is a weird song.
Scooby Snack Count: 1, which tbh is kinda light for tightrope walking across a gorge
Actual crimes committed: assault and battery, bank robbery, insurance fraud probably
I always wondered why they put "Jeepers" in the title if that was Daphne's catchphrase, but now we know that hadn't been established by this point!
"We've got a date at the barn dance" polycule confirmed.
I love that the Creeper says his own name like a pokemon.
The little chicken is so cute. He loves his mama Scoob. Tiny and barky. Just like Scrappy Doo. The original Puppy Power.
I forgot about the Hermit of the Hills. Poor guy just wants someone to share his squirrel stew with. He's a total red herring, not even discussed at the reveal. I prefer when false leads have a little more meat to them. This guy feels shoehorned in and like he doesn't contribute all that much.
We get two chase scenes this episode! One on a horse and cart and one in the barn. No music to the barn one though.
The Creeper is iconic, and we love a good bank robbery episode, but tbh this one has a lot of additional gimmicks (the hermit, the chicken) that don't necessarily add much for me. A solid episode, but not one of my favorites.
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? S2E2: Mystery Mask Mix-up
Location: Chinatown near Laguna Beach.
Chase Scene Song: I Can Make You Happy by Austin Roberts
Scooby Snack Count: one, toss up won by a mouse
Actual Crimes Committed: kidnapping, attempted murder x2, attempted arson, International art smuggling
As far as I can tell the chinese characters written on the banners are just gibberish, but I could be wrong. I also don't know if Scooby's chinese in the laundry is accurate. It is according to IMDB but there's no translation. Would love anyone's input on this.
Taking the entire mystery machine on the chase scene, lol. Look at her go. And no worse for wear after a small tow.
Not a fan of Shaggy and Scooby's imitation of a Chinese restaurant, especially the teeth on Scooby. None of the actual Chinese characters are drawn that way though which I greatly appreciate.
mystery inc. in filipiniana/filipino traditional clothing :D
Good morning! ☀️
"No! Scoob! Get back here!"
