Also, I donāt know any Japanese, so I havenāt been able to read the recent chapters accurately. Because of that, thereās a possibility that I misunderstood some things.
But my question is: in your opinion, what exactly is the goal of the person who is behind everything? And how do you think this could affect Sherlock and Williamās relationship?I feel like this person is attacking both Sherlock and William at the same time, considering the article that was published in the newspaper. Is it possible that they are trying to use Sherlock to draw William out? For example, by hurting Sherlock in order to force William to reveal himself or react?Do they even know that William is alive? Or is their real target only Sherlock, and they are simply using Williamās name without actually being concerned about him?
I feel like Sherlock has become more serious since the beginning of Part 2. Maybe Iām wrong, but do you think itās possible that, in the future, Sherlock might descend into darkness for William and commit crimes for his sake?
Overall, I would really like to know your thoughts about how their relationship might develop. Do you think they will make sacrifices for each other? Will they be dragged into darkness together? Or do you have another idea about what might happen?
Okay, so there's a lot here, so I'm going to have to answer this in bits, but we're going to start here:
Part 1 Sherlock murdered a man in cold blood and didn't regret it for a second until much later when he got yelled at by his best friend about it.
Such a huge part of part 1, especially that moment, is rooted in the fact that Sherlock is not a pure, good, angel the way William sees him. That mistake is the crack in the very foundation of William's plan. Sherlock is, mostly, a man with good intentions who tries to help people. Sherlock is, also, a man wrapped in shadows with darkness. Just as William is.
Sherlock has already lied for William. Many times, even in part one, and he's still doing it now. He has already committed crimes for John, and made huge sacrifices for William, including abandoning his family and friends for three years, and sacrificing his freedom and autonomy, which have always been precious to him.
"Descend into darkness" has always been like. A Milverton phrase. And not really anything the overarching narrative of the story was really subscribing to. It's always been portrayed to some extent as a fault in logic, although it's been a concept that's been around since the beginning of the series.
I don't know. It's really not particularly clear yet. I wouldn't be totally surprised if it was a Milvertone-eque plot to cause chaos, and if it's related to the Dahlem situation, taking down the British Empire generally would also be on the agenda. And using William's own actions and name to destroy it would kill him, and he could never allow that.
Oh, they'll be fine. They know each other very well, even if they're not talking a lot lately And they care about each other a lot. Important to remember that Sherlock has in part 2 specifically mentioned that he wants to unchain William to allow him to be who and what he wants and do whatever he likes. That is, currently, Sherlock William-related goal, because he is down bad for his serial killer husband.
I don't think it's inaccurate to say that they're at least causing problems for Sherlock and William, but I also don't know if they're trying to get William or Sherlock to do anything. Perhaps they know William is alive; William was working on an international problem for the Pinkerton's before he returned to London, after all.
I think more importantly than trying to attack Sherlock, what's happening is that Sherlock's reputation is being attacked, which makes it a lot harder for him to do things and impact things, and also seriously damages the narrative they fought so hard for to protect the British Empire.
I'm not at this point convinced their actions are William and Sherlock based. It's possible, especially with Milverton's lackey and some similar tactics being used, because that's what Milverton's MO was. but it would also be painfully boring and repetitive to do that again, and I don't know that I'm inclined to believe we're getting the same narrative with the same kind of villain again.
I think more than anything, especially given that the title of this arc is "Lies and Lies" and one of the chapter captions was "Those who lie and those who deceive" is that we're getting back into the conversation about lies and stories and narratives again. That was a huge part of part 1; it's a huge part of what makes YuuMori what it is. YuuMori is an adaptation of two different things and twists and turns it on its head and then has a main character obsessed with plays and narratives and selling a certain version of the truth and a lie to people for a specific purpose. And Sherlock does the same, and John is also openly deceiving the people for William and Sherlock's purposes. Over and over and over they do this.
It's about how William never actually lies to Sherlock but Sherlock lies like a rug. It's about how deception and honesty are not always opposites and that sometimes the truth isn't what's most useful. It's about the power of narratives and subverting expectations and using a story you think you know to tell a different one.
And that's one of my favorite things about YuuMori. Maybe my very favorite.
I don't know what's going to happen next. But I trust Miyoshi.
