On a whim, I decided to visit my old hs and check out the wrestling team. Same old thing, inner city school with half a team. Only this time, that half was all upper weights, whereas when I went there, it was all lower weights.
Ive received some nice compliments regarding back in the days, my favorites being “the funkiest” and “ most entertaining to watch”. And jeeze, I’m sounding a bit like a jock reliving some old glory.
Anyways, what really interested me was that it’s been roughly 7-8 years since I last went on the mats. But I retained a lot of it even still. I realized my strength wasn’t up to par, but the combination of my technique and experience was enough to stay on top of conditioned juniors and seniors. So I’m happy about that.
I need to do so more research by experimenting with submission grapplers
But in the meantime, I guess right now is the time to get in competition shape. I’m pretty excited to be able to really dip my feet in the waters now.
