Ok! Long time followers of mecharirychan will remember earlier this year in Spring I hosted sessions of Star Wars Battlefront II for about a month. It was a blast, everyone had fun, and it led to the creation of an ongoing Skype group and developing very close personal ties with some of my mutuals, including @circuitbird, @cheaseart, @josephsk, and half a dozen more. It was a wonderful scene and I’m thinking, for both Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas/winter break, I’ll actually have the time to regularly cultivate a little Battlefront group again.
You don’t need to be my mutual to join, this is an open invitation to join us. Battlefront is now about ten years old and is likely to play on any kind of computer you have, so long as you either have Windows or a Windows emulator installed - not at all difficult to do. Here’s what you’re going to need to join us:
- Pop over to our Dropbox and download everything named “setup”. The cover is only there… for some reason. Once you have all files downloaded, assemble them in one place, such as your downloads folder or their own special folder, and run setup.exe, which should install everything in a very straightforward manner. You can message me if it doesn’t. If you have any discomfort with pirating a game that’s almost as old as you are, you can feel free to purchase it of off Steam, but you’ll still need the Dropbox installer because we play with the included mods.
- You’ll need Gameranger [aka GAMER ANGER]. Registration and installation is totally straightforward. This is the matchmaking program we use to join Battlefront games, because the official servers are long gone.
- Lastly and optionally, you can hook up with us on Skype, which we use for voice chat because gameranger and Battlefront are both terrible for communication. You’re not required to join the chatroom or join our calls, it’s just to better coordinate and talk shit at each other. Message me your Skype ID and I’ll add you to our chatroom.
I’m busy Thanksgiving and it looks like I’m going to be busy Friday, so I’m shooting for a game on Saturday, November 28th, at 5pm PST. It’s still a little early to plan any games for winter break, but if this is a success then there will undoubtedly be some. We’ve also had Jedi Academy games in the past, and may revive that over winter break if there’s enough interest.

On August 15, 1939, a formation of 13 Stuka aircraft was supposed to make a mass dive bombing demonstration for some of the Nazis’ top brass. They were supposed to fly through cloud cover, release their practice bombs, and pull away, but there was fog running all the way to the ground. So these 13 Stukas with their 26 crewmembers flew full force straight into the ground. No one survived.
