In the age of social media—when cowardly trolls and bigoted bots tend to hurl insults from the safety of anonymous online profiles—the white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and racist demonstrators in Charlottesville did not bother to hide their identities...Yet many of these marchers might bristle at being called Klansmen, per se, counting themselves among some differently-named herd of hateful racists...Does our continued use of the phrase “alt-right” amount to allowing ourselves to be spun by bigots?
It’s time to stop sanitizing these hateful groups by calling them the “alt right.” They are white supremacists, racists, bigots and Klansmen.
Almost every American is a “nationalist” of one kind or another. So is almost every Russian, Chinese, or North Korean. Don’t get mad. We are not accusing you of any sort of bias, racism, or other unpleasant views. We are merely trying to emphasize, again, how overly simplistic some labels can be.

San Francisco, California—The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) won a court ruling today affirming that an infamous podcasting patent used by a patent troll to threaten podcasters big and small was properly held invalid by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
