I think one of the worst and most clever tricks a psychological abuser can pull, is the one where they convince their victim that the act of defending themselves, the act of retaliation, is somehow abuse. It allows them to evade blame by gas-lighting the victim into believing that they themselves are actually the abuser, simply because they are refusing to be bullied.
