OK MAYBE OK
Guys guys we done a new single! We bring you - OK MAYBE OK
OK, so it was out a few weeks ago but we just had some extra things we wanted to share with you, like....what’s it all about? How did we make a baby dance? And, why so much cowbell?
Well the cowbell question can be pretty easily explained thusly:
As for what it’s all about - well, it’s basically our response to a world gone totally apeshit. It was written during the UK referendum and in the lead up to the US presidential election, while Lisa was pregnant - look here she is in the studio...
And here’s the first kitchen demo we did (nearly all our songs start off like this, well, in our heads first, then a rough kitchen demo). Can you tell what it is yet?
Anyway, the lyrics deal with the terror of bringing a child into all this chaos.
Clearly sound-tracking our collective revulsion and confusion is no substitute for an actual worldwide revolution fueled by empathy, compassion and optimism, but still, hopefully it’s something to temporarily drown out the horror.
The video features Lisa’s new little daughter Suki, and we got her to cut some shapes by, well - I think this behind the scenes pic gives the game away a bit...
I guess the genre we were going for was kinda ‘early 90s Christian rap video’, er, with a dancing baby. Did you like the Run DMC-style leg work? Well it may come as something of a shock to learn that Suki’s legs were in fact nothing but stuffed toilet rolls and electric whisks (imagine our surprise when we got her home from hospital!).
Filming took about a day, during which time our leading lady was a real diva - pooped herself twice on set, drank till she was sick, slept for hours, and insisted her friends ‘Mr Lion’ and ‘Jenny the mouse’ were allowed to hang out with her back stage.
We went a bit over the top with the editing, with strobing, cut-ups and nonuplet Suki’s appearing. Jan still has nightmares of monster cowbells and multiplying babies...
