Project 4 Artist Statement
These photos are a representation of the daily struggle with depression, anxiety, and body dysmorphia. These are issues that greatly affect myself and millions of other people around the world. There has been a beautiful swell of positivity regarding body image and mental illness, Though, sometimes I feel that the amount of effort it takes some days to even make it out of bed, let alone through the day is overlooked. While we strive for progress and improvement, there is always the exhausting effort hiding behind the smiles. Moreover the progress we make on ourselves on the outside, may not be the solution to how we feel on the inside. Of course it will make us feel a little better, but it’s never a complete solution. So we must face our demons and issues no matter how much it hurts, or how tired we are. We should take one day at a time and do what we can without punishing ourselves for what we can’t. We should accept that it’s ok to be tired and sad, not everyday is going to be perfect, and continue to try our best with what we have each day.
