inside St Pauls Cathedral during White Night Melbourne
Street projections at White Night Melbourne
Grange Lynne Pty Ltd, A'Beckett St. built 1937.
Designed by Edward Billson in style strongly influenced by the Dutch and European modernism of the 1920's, as well as more romantic Arts and Crafts elements.
1930's Electric Substation, A'Beckett st.
Can't find out much about this Art Deco/Moderne jem in A'beckett st.
Now used by La Trobe Uni, probably buit in the late 1930's- 40's
Electric Place
373 Queen St, built 1900.
The coat of arms belongs to the Corps of Commissionaire, a security company set up in Britain in 1859 to provide ex-soldiers and sailors with work opportunities.
1920's Factories converted to apartments in Anthony st.
Melbourne Terrace Apartments, crn Franklin and Queen st. 1994.
An Award winning apartment building by Nonda Katsalidis, one of the first major residential projects aimed at bringing life back to the CBD in the early 1990's. It features copper oxide blaconies, and entrances flanked by Peter Corlet sculptures.
described in some places as 'contemporary Baroque'
167 Franklin Street
built in the Neo-Greco style in 1928 as the head office of A.G Healing, manufacturers of bicycles, radios, TV sets and washing machines.
A fascinating un-named laneway, in a U shape behind a Victorian Era warehouse conversion on Franklin Street. A small Victorian era warehouse is hidden in the lane, sometimes host to Art events. The rounded corners would have provided easy turning round the back for horse carriages. A barely human sized exit back to Franklin st is like exiting a hidden cave. One of Melbourne's best 'secret' laneways.
There's a great documentary about the Dark Horse Experiment gallery on ABC i-view at the moment.

Keep Brothers & Wood workshop and showroom, Franklin Street. 1903
A horse carriage workshop that evolved into a motor car production plant.
It was in an earlier building on this site that James Harrison invented the world's first ice making machine in the 1850's, an important development in refrigeration, which paved the way for the global shipping of meat and other perishables.
I'll explore the fascinating post-industrial area north of Victoria Street soon, but for now back into the city.
